Border Patrol Busts Caravan Member in US, Turns Out He's a Convicted Murderer

Share

While the left has been busy bashing the border patrol and ICE, there are others making strong arguments for why the United States needs both. Now we have yet another real life example of the importance of having border security.

The Washington Times reported that a member of the migrant caravan was caught attempting to illegally enter the United States. But that is not all.

The man is also a convicted murderer. He had been serving time for murder in a Honduras prison until four months ago.

The 46-year-old has been identified as Miguel Angel Ramirez. He had spent 16 years in prison for his murder conviction, then shortly after his release joined the caravan headed for the U.S.

A earlier report from the Department of Security had noted that approximately 270 members of one of the caravan groups were criminals and gang members. President Donald Trump has been heavily criticized for speaking about criminals within the caravan.

Do you believe the U.S. needs agencies such as Border Patrol and ICE?

But facts don’t care about feelings. The Mexican government has played a role in identifying the “bad guys” to Homeland Security.

And now we have one arrested as he has tried to commit yet another crime. It is a crime to enter the United States illegally.

The Washington Times noted that the number of identified criminals within the caravan has now been upped to 600. In addition to Ramirez, another “bad guy” arrest also recently took place.

A self-declared MS-13 gang member was also arrested, in a separate event. USA Today reported that the arrest did occur on the same day, however, as the convicted murderer arrest.

USA Today reported that both men have been confirmed as being who and what they are: convicted murderer and MS-13 gang member through official sources by U.S. authorities. Both men will be deported.

DHS spokesperson Tyler Q. Houlton stressed the importance of having border security in place. “The fact that Border Patrol arrested a murderer within the first caravan-related apprehensions at our southern border proves how real the threat of the caravan is to our national security and public safety.”

While some argue that illegal aliens are just trying to have a better life or are trying to flee violence, there are legal channels for accomplishing both. Illegal entry is a means commonly used by those who don’t wish to use legal means for a variety of reasons, including criminal ones.

Human traffickers and drug mules are among those who have historically been caught attempting illegal entry. Those who would not be allowed in via legal means, such as gang members and convicted murderers, also have incentive to attempt illegal entry. It’s their only way in.

And those are all great arguments for having strong border security. They are also founded in reality, with regular arrests of such individuals occurring along the border.

They are also more instances of facts versus feelings in the immigration and border security debates. Just don’t expect a lot of air time of such facts on outlets such as CNN.
