Booker Doc Dump Backfires Big Time. Proves Kavanaugh Rejects Racial Profiling

Share

Cory Booker may want to be the next president of the United States, but he’ll need to stop making a fool out of himself as a senator first.

The New Jersey lawmaker is widely expected to be a Democrat contender in the 2020 White House race … and it looks like he just tried to step into the spotlight to boost his chances.

He ended up falling flat on his face.

During Thursday’s much-covered hearings to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Booker did his best to play the crusading hero. While the cameras rolled, he declared that he would break senate rules to release emails labelled “committee confidential” sent by Kavanaugh during the Bush years.

“I understand the penalty comes with potential ousting from the Senate. … I openly invite and accept the consequences of my team releasing that email right now,” Booker declared, also calling the decision “civil disobedience.”

But in a twist, the oh-so-noble ploy for attention backfired. Not only did it prove totally unnecessary, it actually ended up helping Kavanaugh on a key issue.

“We were surprised to learn about Senator Booker’s histrionics this morning because we had already told him he could use the documents publicly,” stated Bill Burck, an attorney connected to George W. Bush’s administration.

“In fact, we have said yes to every request made by the Senate Democrats to make documents public,” Burck continued.

That took the wind out of Booker’s sails, essentially meaning that he violated U.S. Senate rules to release emails that had already been cleared for release. Oops.

Do you support Kavanaugh's confirmation?

Then things got worse — for Democrats, that is. After Booker made the almost two-decade-old emails public, pundits pointed out that they showed President Trump’s nominee rejecting racial profiling during a time when isolationist sentiment was high.

Just months after September 11, Bush’s legal team — which included Kavanaugh — was debating approaches to preventing future attacks and securing the homeland.

Unsurprisingly, the question of profiling against Arab or Islamic visitors to the United States came up. To the left’s chagrin, Kavanaugh was against it.

The attorney pointed out that he would “generally favor effective security measures that are race-neutral” in a key 2002 email released by Booker.

“So the documents that Cory Booker violated committee rules to release shows (sic) that Kavanaugh rejected the use of race or national origin in airport security screening and law enforcement generally in the immediate aftermath of 9/11,” reported Lachlan Markay, a journalist with The Daily Beast.

Townhall editor Guy Benson summarized it even more bluntly.

“Dems: WHAT ARE THEY HIDING???!?!? Also Dems: ALERT! WE ARE RELEASING A CONFIDENTIAL MEMO IN WHICH KAVANAUGH… ::checks notes:: …rejected racial profiling after 9/11,” he posted on Twitter.

Once again, liberals have tripped themselves up in their zeal to undermine the president and his administration. It’s becoming a bit of a reoccurring theme — but it looks like Booker and other Democrats still haven’t learned the lesson.
