Bette Midler Posts Fake Trump Quote, Twitter Does Nothing While It Goes Viral

Share

Recently, a slowed-down video of Nancy Pelosi went viral. The reduced speed of the clip appeared to make Pelosi look as if she was dramatically slurring her words.

The left went into a rage. How could Facebook let this happen? How dare they let a “doctored” video of a liberal hero be passed around the social media world all willy-nilly and such?

Saturday, The Daily Beast ran a 30-paragraph, in-depth article on the maker of the video, Shawn Brooks.

The Beast revealed his history, his residence history, his criminal history and political leanings and certain Facebook page affiliations. And, according to the article, people at Facebook helped with the “investigation.”

What’s all the hullabaloo about, you ask? Well, the left is using the video as fodder for the war against misinformation.

Hillary Clinton called the video “sexist trash.”

Pelosi said of Facebook in a Wednesday interview, “I think they have proven — by not taking down something they know is false — that they were willing enablers of the Russian interference in our election.”

Do you think social media platforms favor liberal celebrities?

The Daily Beast concluded, “Russia doesn’t have a monopoly on disinformation. Fake news is the most egalitarian of fields, where even a hastily produced, low-budget fraud can fool millions if it lands just right.”

Enter Bette Midler, stage left. On Sunday, Midler tweeted a since-deleted picture of Trump with a quote.

The quote, mind you, was debunked as fake years ago.

Now, reread The Daily Beast’s conclusion above and let that soak in.

At the time this article was written, Midler’s fake quote tweet had more than 35,000 likes and 13,000 retweets. I have been unable to find any articles from The Daily Beast lamenting the danger of Midler’s misinformation.

Twitter had not removed the post, de-verified Midler or put her on permanent or temporary suspension.

Reread that conclusion again. You see my point? The left couldn’t care less about misinformation.

Twitter and its leftist comrades have shown their true colors. Again.

Conservative commentator Stephen Miller was quick to point out the left’s hypocrisy.

Miller tweeted, “Easy to go after random forklift operator on Facebook. Not so easy to go after a celebrity with 1.5 million twitter followers with these fights. Very brave.”

He continued, “They clearly don’t care about the spread of misinformation. They just care about where people get it from. Bette Midler isn’t their competition, so it’s cool.”

Miller hit the nail on the head. The left only cares about ‘misinformation’ when it’s information its members don’t like. Everything else gets a pass.

While I was writing this article,Midler deleted her tweet and issued the following apology: “I apologize; this quote turns out to be a fake from way back in ‘15-16. Don’t know how I missed it, but it sounds SO much like him that I believed it was true!”
