Always Remember: 'Down to Earth' Michelle Had WH Staff Twice as Big as 'Spoiled' Melania's
Score one for Melania Trump.
About the only thing liberals love more than bashing President Donald Trump as a “racist” or “fascist” commander in chief is taking unseemly swipes at the president’s wife.
Whether it’s an independent congressional candidate in liberal Oregon accusing her of being a prostitute, or trollers claiming the first lady’s apparel shows how imperious she really is, the politically progressive make an effort to smear Melania Trump’s name almost daily.
But here’s one comparison that isn’t likely to be getting airtime on CNN or MSNBC as long as the Trumps are in the White House.
The supposedly “spoiled” Melania Trump, wife of one of the richest men to ever win the White House, operates the first lady’s office with a staff less than half the size of the bloated East Wing operation under former first lady Michelle Obama.
According to a Fox News report from October 2017, Michelle Obama’s staff numbered 24 by the Obamas’ final year in the White House.
Melania, meanwhile, made do with a staff of only four for much of her husband’s first year in office. Since then, the list as grown to 10, according to a Washington Post profile of the first lady published in May.
It was an interesting nugget, buried far, far down in a story that required the efforts of three Washington Post journalists to write – and was mainly dedicated to pushing the “narrative” that the Trumps’ marriage is perpetually on the rocks
But even if WaPo reporters Mary Jordan, Emily Heil and Josh Dawsey treated it as a throwaway line, it stood out:
“Melania’s staff is unusually small; with 10 people, it is about half the size of Michelle Obama’s at its peak.”
That means it took Michelle 14 more people to do the first lady’s job than Melania has.
Does anyone think for a second that if Melania’s staff had been twice the size of Michelle Obama’s that the fact would have been buried 30 paragraphs deep into a profile?
But since it was “down to earth” Michelle Obama who was strutting around as the nation’s first lady with an entourage that would have been more at home in the Versailles court than the “People’s House,” the issue has gone pretty much unnoticed.
Of course, the women seem to be approaching the office differently.
Melania Trump is focusing her efforts on her “Be Best” campaign, which she announced in the spring, that aims to promote healthy living for children, fight against cyber bullying, and battle the scourge of opioid addiction.
Michelle Obama, on the other hand, seemed hellbent on using the bully pulpit of the White House to bully public schools in the United States into radically overhauling their school lunch programs, among other socially “progressive” change.
Constantly hectoring Americans, it seems, takes a lot of paid help.
And, of course, Michelle was never shy about soaking the American taxpayer when it came to something she decided she wanted. (Like Hawaiian Christmas vacations that cost the country $35 million over her eight years, according to The Washington Times.)
Don’t expect to see a comparison of Melania Trump’s staff with Michelle Obama’s staff getting ink or airtime anytime soon. It makes the current first lady look like a class act, and her predecessor a look like a grasping, power-hungry autocrat with zero respect for taxpayer money.
In other words, it looks exactly like the kind of story the mainstream media in today’s America would have no interest in running.
But the reality is that while leftists try to paint Melania as the “spoiled” one, it’s really Michelle who had the taste — and staffing needs — of a latter day Marie Antoinette. Just like liberals who accuse Donald Trump of racism and fascism are really the racists and fascists of American politics today.
Always remember: What liberals accuse conservatives of is what they’re always guilty of themselves.
This time, score one for Melania.
