Actor Mario Lopez Is Getting Destroyed for Saying It's 'Dangerous' To Let 3-Year-Olds Pick Gender

Share

Actor Mario Lopez has become the target of progressive outrage after criticizing Hollywood celebrities for letting their toddlers choose their genders.

In a June interview with conservative activist Candace Owens, Lopez, known for his role on television’s “Saved by the Bell,” said that “if you’re 3 years old and you’re saying you’re feeling a certain way, and you think you’re a boy or girl, I think it’s dangerous as a parent to make that determination then,” CBS News reported.

On Wednesday, Lopez released a statement apologizing for his remarks.

“The comments I made were ignorant and insensitive, and I now have a deeper understanding of how hurtful they were,” Lopez said to People.

“I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I am going to use this opportunity to better educate myself. Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful.”

Lopez’s retraction is just the latest example of a public figure caving to the pressure of the mob. All it took was left-wing indignation to cause Lopez to repudiate his remarks.

Weeks ago, the actor appeared on Owens’ PragerU show to discuss what Owens called “a very scary trend … [of] accepting that whatever my kid wants to do they can do.”

Lopez didn’t exactly sound like a conservative voice when responding to Owens’ statement.

He even conceded that “I think in the formative years is when you start to have these conversations and make those decisions [about gender/sexuality].”

Do you think Mario Lopez should have defended his comments?

That comment should come as no surprise: As Lopez stated earlier in the interview, he’s a political independent who prefers not to talk about politics.

But Lopez’s support for transgender individuals didn’t spare him from leftists’ scorn. His common-sense reasoning — that toddlers shouldn’t be dictating their genders to their parents — was too great an offense.

Left-wing celebrities and organizations alike condemned Lopez’s comments.

“Mario Lopez’s comments are dangerous to the safety and well-being of LGBTQ youth,” LGBT advocacy group Human Rights Campaign tweeted.

“Queer Eye” actor Karamo Brown said that he was “disappointed to read @MarioLopezExtra comments about parent’s who support their child’s openes about their gender identity.”

The Lopez saga has only cemented what many conservatives already know about Hollywood: Any straying from progressive dogma is strictly forbidden.

The choice was clear. Submit to left-wing orthodoxy or lose all favor. Unfortunately, Mario Lopez chose the former.
