2020 Dem. Disaster Grows as Entirely New Leftist Party Just Got Approved

Share

If it seemed like things weren’t good for the Democrats because so many people were running or likely to run for president in 2020, it just got worse. Even the socialism some Democrats are pushing is now being threatened.

That push for socialism has been taken and turned into not only a new political party in the United States but a means of challenging the very Democrats who push it. Why vote for a Democrat who talks about socialism here and there when you can support an entire party dedicated to implementing it across the board?

Maryland has just certified a new party to enter the political landscape. Named the Bread and Roses party, they may even have their own presidential candidate facing off against the Democrats in 2020, wrote Jerome M. Segal in an opinion piece for The Baltimore Sun.

Segal is the creator of The Bread and Roses Party.

This new socialist party is “An Electoral Party for both New Socialists and Non-Socialists, A Party with a Strong Utopian and International Orientation, One in Pursuit of a New American Dream,” according to its website.

While they don’t fully embrace the term “socialist” and prefer “socialistic,” they are open to the use of the former. They just want it to be clear they are not your standard socialist party, according to their FAQ page.

This is where they really hit hard at the Democrats pushing for socialism. They are branding themselves as something better that is “leaving behind the baggage” of the old kind of socialism. That old kind is what the Democrats of today have been trying to sell to the American people.

Perhaps much like how Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been able to captivate with her seemingly fresh approach, Bread and Roses will be able to capitalize on that same desire for something new on the far left side of the political spectrum.

The “something new” that they bring includes going “beyond the socialist tradition in two important respects.”

Do you think the Bread and Roses party is a threat to Democrats?

The first respect is their “commitment to Beauty and Creativity, to Meaningful Work, and to Sufficient Leisure to do the things that are most important in life, as people define it for themselves.”

The second way they are providing an update, if you will, to socialism is found in their “commitment to an alternative American Dream, identif(ying) strongly with the anti-consumerist, simple-living traditions of American society.”

Additionally, Bread and Roses is seeking to create “a society that is ‘used-friendly’ for Americans seeking to live an Alternative American dream: A vibrant life, with economic security, but modest consumption, and limited involvement in ‘getting and spending,’” according to their FAQ page.

This kind of thing could have a broad appeal, particularly among the Democrats who are favoring socialism. And the Bread and Roses party’s stated goal is also a threat to the Democrats, adopting some of the typical Democrat talking points, but presenting them in a way that may appeal to people who want hope rather than more Republican-bashing.

“We see America today as a remarkably inefficient society, one in which meeting core needs can only be accomplished at very high levels of income. Changing this is at the core of our mission,” states the FAQs page.

In his op-ed, Segal issued a warning for the Democrats. “Which races we enter will depend in part on whom the Democrats nominate. Going forward, the Democratic Party, starting in Maryland, will have to consider that if they don’t nominate candidates along the lines of socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, they may find themselves running against Bread and Roses socialists.”

So the threat is not hypothetical, but real. The party will be watching the Democrats closely and challenging them where they feel it is needed. This could result in a figurative bloodbath for the Democrats in 2020, with electors being split and critical fracturing within their normal pool of voters.

The attacks have already begun, with Segal hitting at announced Democratic 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Segal was clear in a written statement to The Boston Globe that he did not find her impressive in her recent speech.

“Senator Warren went to Lawrence, and she told the story of the historic 1912 strike to set the historic context for her campaign. Unfortunately, when it came to the strike, she missed the heart of the story.” If she thought President Donald Trump was the only one she had to worry about, apparently she was sadly mistaken.

All other contenders should beware. He made it clear he and his party would be keeping an eye on things. They may only be certified in one state right now, but they are getting some press attention and could lay out some critical hits prior to 2020.
