Couple Who Lost Home in Wildfire Get Engaged on Steps That Once Connected to Home

Share

The California “Camp Fire” of 2018 has been called the most devastating of the state’s history. With 153,336 acres consumed, according to Cal Fire, the victim’s continue to press forward in the wake of this tragedy.

One couple found hope and love even after they lost their home. Lukas Schnoor and Cassie Oxley met eight months ago and fell in love.

They began their life together in a modest 1,000 square foot home that Schnoor once considered his “bachelor pad.”

But meeting Oxley changed everything. She shared there was a time when her beau said he wasn’t interested in marriage.

That’s all in the past now, and since they’ve been through so much together, including losing their home, Schnoor decided it was time to tell his girlfriend just how much she means to him.

In a video Schnoor originally shared to Facebook, he got down on one knee and asked his love a very important question.

“Today I kept a special promise and asked my best friend to marry me,” the 27-year-old wrote in his caption. Watch their perfect moment.

“Her ring is three stones for past, present, and future,” Schnoor wrote. “I asked her to marry me at the top step I waited to walk up every day to see her once more.”

“Here is to another step in building our future together,” he went on. “Cassie Oxley, I love you.” Is there anything sweeter than this?

“It meant more, I think, just because of what we’d already gone through,” Cassie told KATU. “I couldn’t imagine a day without him anymore.”

Though Paradise is the place where they saw suffered much pain and heartache, it is also the place where they have started something new.

We wish the happy couple so much love and blessings in their future together. No doubt they will cherish one another even more in the wake of all they’ve shared.
