Police officers are here to protect and serve, even if it means helping the tiniest of creatures.

For one police officer, it meant saving the life of a helpless kitten along a very busy stretch of interstate highway, according to Global News.

When North Kansas City, Missouri, Police Officer Jason Smith was cruising Interstate 29 just before Christmas, he came across a curious sight.

There on the concrete median was a tiny little kitten, helpless and stranded along the busy highway.

There was only one thing that Smith could do, and that was to help the little one out.

So, Smith pulled over on the interstate and rescued her without any hesitation.

As the kitten mewed for help, the officer scooped her up and carried her away to safety before the situation became any more dangerous.

The love that this officer showed for this little kitten was invaluable as he began to shower her with affection.

When the kitten was safe in his police squad, she seemed to thank Smith with a few mighty mews.

Have you ever rescued an animal?

Inside the car, the kitten went exploring the interior, even setting off the police car’s siren before finding the cozy lap of Smith to cuddle up on.

The entire moment was captured on the police officer’s body cam.

The tiny kitten’s story has a happy ending too. After the daring rescue, Smith and his family decided to adopt her, naming her “Bella.”
