College Hockey Star, Aspiring NYPD Cop Killed in Wrong-Way Crash: It Was a Twice-Deported Illegal Behind the Wheel

Ryan O’Shea wanted to uphold the law. Guillermo Carmona-Lopez only wanted to break it.

Their lives intertwined in tragedy on Oct. 16, when a vehicle driven by Carmona-Lopez, a twice-deported illegal immigrant from Mexico, collided with one driven by O’Shea, leading to the death of the 21-year-old, according to Fox News.

O’Shea had interned with the New York Police Department and wanted to become an officer.

“His family joins the many American families who have been left with unimaginable loss. Loss that was preventable,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement posted on X.

“This is our why,” the post said.

The accident took place when the Chevy Silverado that Carmona-Lopez was driving slammed into the Honda Accord driven by the University of New Haven club hockey senior assistant captain.

Police said the truck was driving the wrong way on Interstate 91 in Connecticut. O’Shea’s vehicle was hit by two others after the illegal immigrant’s vehicle hit his.

Carmona-Lopez was reported to have sustained life-threatening injuries. Three other people suffered minor injuries.

“In May 2013, Border Patrol arrested Guillermo Carmona-Lopez, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, after he illegally entered the country,” a Department of Homeland Security representative said.

“Carmona-Lopez was issued an expedited removal and was removed from the country.”

He returned and was arrested again.

O’Shea, of Stony Point, New York, was studying criminal justice.

“Ryan wanted to go into public service in order to help others,” Lorenzo Boyd, his academic adviser, said. “He was engaging in the classroom and will be missed greatly.”

DHS indicated it will become involved in the investigation.

“Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, if you break the law, you will face the consequences,” the DHS representative said. “Criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the U.S.”
