California Mayor Caught Consulting with Illegal Immigration Activists on Policy

Share

It just keeps getting worse in California.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff ignited a firestorm last month when she broadcast a warning to illegal aliens on social media that federal authorities were planning a raid in the city.

Now, word is spreading on who she talked to before issuing the warning, and it’s not making the city look any better.

According to Fox News and KPIX, the Bay Area’s CBS station, Schaaf was in contact with illegal alien advocates hours before she went public with a now-notorious news release.

She was also in contact with businesses that could employ illegal aliens, the kind that act as a lure to bring illegals into the country in the first place.

KPIX, citing emails obtained through public records laws, reported that the Oakland Indie Alliance, an organization of independent businesses, received a message in advance of Schaaf’s news release stating: “Important Alert! Credible information ICE Raids in Oakland Sunday 2/25 and Monday 2/26” and “This information comes directly from the Mayor.”

Also involved in consultations were the Rev. Stephan Kappler of St. Jarlath Catholic Church and Emma Paulino, a leader of Oakland Community Organizations. (What Democrat undermining of the law would be complete without a bona fide community organizer?)

“It was about if we should share what we know and how to share that information in a responsible way so to not create panic in the community,” Paulino told Fox News on Friday. “People live in fear already.”

We can assume Paulino was referring to illegal aliens living in fear.

Should the Oakland mayor be prosecuted for this?

But what she and the rest of the progressive movement deliberately omit is the legitimate fear that millions of legal American citizens live in too, as a direct result of the crime that illegal aliens undeniably bring with them.

In an interview with “Fox & Friends” on Friday, the father of a teenager who was killed by an illegal alien in 2008 weighed in on Schaaf’s action.

“You know, it was just disgusting,” Shaw told host Steve Doocy. “Her job is to protect the citizens, the American citizens, you know. And for her to take a stand like that, she’s allowing Americans to be murdered.”

Shaw’s son was far from alone — and if anything, the situation has gotten worse in the decade since he was shot to death in Los Angeles.

According to a recent report by Pew Research, based on numbers compiled by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, almost 75 percent of illegal aliens arrested by ICE in 2017 had criminal records. In 2009, the report stated, 61 percent of those arrested did not have criminal records. Even if the crimes involved here were of the minor, traffic offense variety, it’s pretty obvious illegal aliens aren’t getting any more law-abiding.

And these are the same people Schaaf was helping avoid arrest when she issued her warning about the pending ICE raid in late February. And as mayor of a self-described “sanctuary city,” she’s committed to a policy of non-cooperation with the federal government on immigration issues.

In Oakland, it’s almost not surprising. This is a city so radical that some of its “antifa” activists are suspected of working with the Islamic State group. It’s a city where a coffee shop openly boasts about refusing to serve police officers.

And it’s a city where a liberal mayor feels no compunction about going public with privileged information to warn criminals about a coming federal raid.

From almost the minute Donald Trump was declared the winner of the 2016 presidential election, liberals in California started making impossible-to-believe noises about seceding from the union.

Over the past year, more and more counties in the Golden State have joined a slightly more plausible movement to secede from California itself, and get away from its liberal lawlessness.

That doesn’t have much of a chance to succeed either, realistically, but it’s at least understandable.

Because in California, it just keeps getting worse.
