Bindi Irwin Writes Touching Note to Late Father After Engagement: ‘I Wish You Could Be Here’
After you lose a parent or close loved one, celebrating big moments can be a reminder of those who aren’t there to celebrating with you; it can make those moments bittersweet.
Bindi Irwin has publicly shared how she acknowledges her late-father while celebrating life events through open notes to him on social media.
In Feb. 2018, she shared a video of Steve Irwin talking about his hopes for his children.
“I promise to do my best to make you proud and ensure your legacy lives on forever,” the now-21-year-old wrote at the time.
More recently, on June 16, 2019, she posted an adorable picture of her as a young child holding Steve’s hand and flexing her other arm.
“Thank you for always teaching me to stand up for what I believe in,” she wrote. “I’m incredibly blessed to be your daughter and I love you so much.”

Bindi announced her engagement to Chandler Powell about two weeks ago with pictures taken by her little brother, Robert Irwin.
Chandler and Bindi first met when the Florida-native visited the zoo in 2013. Bindi led his tour group and the rest is history.
He even relocated to Australia to be closer to her and his soon-to-be in-laws.
Bindi told People in 2018 that Chandler holds a lot of qualities that her father did.
“He loves wildlife and conservation and he has this strength,” Bindi said. “Which is necessary when you’re jumping on crocs.”
On July 24, 2019, Chandler crafted the perfect 21st birthday surprise: a dreamy engagement in a garden in the Australia Zoo.
On my birthday I said ‘yes’ & ‘forever’ to the love of my life.
Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you & every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure & true happiness.

“These past five years together have been the best of my life and we look forward to a lifetime of magical moments to come,” Chandler told People.
Even though her father won’t be there to walk her down the aisle, Bindi already has a perfect substitute in mind: her brother, Robert.
Just over a week later, Bindi took a moment to write a short open letter to her father about her engagement and Robert’s role in this new, exciting season of her life.
“Dad, You would be so incredibly proud of Robert,” she wrote. “He has been such an amazing support during this beautiful new life chapter.”
“I wish you could be here for these moments, but I know that your spirit lives on in us.”

The couple hasn’t set a wedding date yet but based on how much Bindi recognizes her father throughout her daily life, her wedding day is sure to be full of sweet nods to the beloved crocodile hunter.
