A New 'Sandlot' Movie Is In Development
20th Century Fox is working on a prequel to the beloved coming-of-age baseball film “The Sandlot,” according to Deadline Hollywood.
The movie wasn’t a huge hit when it came out in 1993, but it’s become a classic over the years.
“The Sandlot” grossed only $32 million upon release, making it the 50th-highest-grossing film of that year, according to Box Office Mojo.
But the movie, which centers around a group of baseball-obsessed kids in 1962, has endured through reruns and rentals to become a modern-day classic that has been embraced by new generations of kids, and their parents, over the past 25 years.

Deadline Hollywood reports that the writer and director of the original, David Mickey Evans, co-wrote the new script with Austin Reynolds.
There weren’t any details on the plot other than it involves the legend of “the Beast” — the ferocious, ball-stealing English mastiff that lives near the sandlot.

Since the film debuted in 1993 there have been two sequels, both direct-to-video.
The first was “The Sandlot 2” in 2005, and the second was “The Sandlot: Heading Home” two years later.

The original film was about a boy named Scotty who moves to a new town and tries to fit in with a group of kids who play baseball every day on the local sandlot.
The problem is, Scotty doesn’t know a thing about baseball, but the star player on the sandlot, Benny, takes him under his wing and teaches him the game.
One day, when a home run is lost to the Beast, Scotty runs home to get a replacement ball, which was his stepdad’s. Only it was not just any ball, it was one that was signed by Babe Ruth.
It too goes over the wall and into the domain of the Beast. Scotty and the kids now have to find a way to get it back.
“Remember, kid, there’s heroes and there’s legends,” the Babe tells Scotty. “Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart, kid, and you’ll never go wrong.”
Which is why “The Sandlot” lives on.
