Even 'Dummy' Brian Williams Gets It, Mocks Dem Candidates 'Offering Free Salad Bar and Breadsticks'

Share

There’s an old saying you’ve probably heard about even a broken clock being right twice a day.

And following Tuesday’s 2020 Democratic presidential debate, MSNBC anchor Brian Williams, who’s not exactly known for his truth-telling prowess, proved that old adage, making an accurate observation about some of the far-left candidates on the stage.

In case you didn’t watch the debate (and I don’t blame you), here’s a very quick summary.

Far-left Democrats, led by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, defended their support for expensive, pie-in-the-sky government programs such as Medicare for All.

Meanwhile, more moderate Democrats such as former Maryland Rep. John Delaney tried to be the voice of reason, pointing out that these sorts of proposals simply don’t make fiscal sense.

Williams couldn’t help but point this out.

“You got one side of the party offering free salad bar and breadsticks, everything right up to that, and the other side of the party trying to be the moderates, saying: ‘We can’t promise this stuff,’” he told Washington Post reporter Robert Costa during MSNBC’s post-debate coverage.

“But a tricky night, Brian, for many of the moderates on stage like Congressman [Tim] Ryan, who’s best known in politics for running against Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi to take control of the gavel,” Costa replied.

Do you think any of the Democratic candidates have a chance at beating President Trump in 2020?

“Whether it was former Gov. [John] Hickenlooper of Colorado or Sen. [Amy] Klobuchar of Minnesota or Congressman Ryan, they found themselves actually not serving from question to question as the foil against the liberal favorites on stage, Sen. Sanders and Sen. Warren,” he added.

“Instead, it was a wealthy former congressman from Maryland in John Delaney who seemed to play that role time and again.”

Costa was right on the money.

As the Washington Examiner noted, Delaney blasted Sanders over his support for Medicare for All, at one point saying that “I’ve done the math” and that Sanders’ “math is wrong.”

Back to Williams.

As previously noted, the man whom Donald Trump called a “dummy” back in 2012 is not exactly known for telling the truth. Who can forget the 11 times where Williams “publicly embellished details of his reporting exploits,” as The Washington Post reported in 2015, including when he claimed a military helicopter he was flying in during the Iraq war was hit by missile fire?

Williams is not a particularly credible reporter. But as they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
