NYC Police Association Delivers Brutal Fact Check on de Blasio's Gun Crime Plan

Share

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Democratic presidential debate performance on Wednesday night left much to be desired. At times, it was downright embarrassing and less than 24 hours later, he’s feeling the backlash.

According to The New York Times, de Blasio came in second-to-last — at 5:54 — as far as how much time each candidate spoke during the debate. But within that short amount of time, he managed to not only try to prop himself up on the subject of gun violence by reminding the audience that he runs the New York Police Department, he also tossed every cop under the bus in the same breath.

He also managed to tick off the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York — a major police union that represents more than 50,000 officers. They absolutely shredded de Blasio on the topic of gun crime.

In a Thursday morning tweet, the NYC PBA called the mayor out for his comments during the debate in which he said, “Look, I run the largest police force in America, too, and if we’re going to stop these shootings, we’re going to get these guns off the street, we have to have a very different relationship between our police and our community. “

The police union’s response was blistering, calling out the mayor for implying that whatever he thinks he’s doing to decrease gun violence is working, when in fact, statistics show it’s not.

If there’s one thing de Blasio is famous for, it’s his terrible relationship with the fine men and women of the NYPD.

It really shouldn’t come as a surprise that after his opening line on gun violence, he used his black son as a prop to imply that cops are essentially racist killers and that it’s an issue that needs to be fixed.

Do you think de Blasio should drop out of the race?

“There’s something that sets me apart from all my colleagues running in this race and that is for the last 21 years, I’ve been raising a black son in America,” de Blasio said.

“I’ve had to have very serious talks with my son, Dante, about how to protect himself on the streets of our city and all over this country, including how to deal with the fact that he has to take special caution because there have been too many tragedies between our young men and our police, too,” de Blasio added.

You can watch a video clip of his absurd remarks in a video posted by CNBC below.

Look, nobody wants to see young men of any race die as a result of getting shot by police or anyone else for that matter. But de Blasio made it sound like the young black men being killed in officer-involved shootings across America are all innocent victims, which is far from the truth.

He went on to say that we need to have a “different conversation” about policing to bring the community and police together. He claimed that “we’ve done that in New York City, we’ve driven down crime while we’ve done it.”

Wow, the guy has some nerve, doesn’t he? No wonder the police union was furious with his desperate attempt to sound as if he has all the answers.

The mayor made no bones about his pursuit of stricter gun control and “taking guns off the streets,” but like other liberal anti-gunners, he essentially believes that eliminating guns altogether is the solution.

But it’s not. All that does is remove firearms from legal gun owners who have said firearms to protect themselves from bad guys who obtain firearms illegally and use them for criminal purposes.

For reasons unknown, Democrats never learned a lesson from the failures of the war on drugs. Bad guys tend to not pay any mind to laws, which is why they’re bad guys.

Luckily for America, according to de Blasio’s humiliating poll numbers, it doesn’t look like many people are buying his line of garbage anyway.

And since he certainly didn’t do himself any favors in Wednesday night’s debate, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him bow out of the contest sooner than later.
