Britain's So 'Safe' After Gun Control That Armed Forces Are Standing By To Stop Knife Attacks

Share

If you want a look at how Democrats’ experiments in gun control will likely turn out, all you need to do is look across the Atlantic Ocean.

The United Kingdom’s byzantine and restrictive gun laws have effectively disarmed citizens of all but the most paltry of firearms. Residents looking to buy rifles, for example, will most likely have to settle for a .22 caliber. Buying a pistol is out of the question — they’re effectively banned.

Although the government insists these bans make people safer, criminals have simply adapted to an older and more brutal tool — the knife.

Knife violence is now sweeping the United Kingdom, and is at a nine-year high, according to the BBC. Police have even taken to confiscating anything remotely pointy, making for some dystopian Twitter posts.

As the Independent reports, the country’s defense minister said the military “always stands ready to help any government department,” when asked about dealing with knife crime.

This is seemingly good news for British police, who say they are understaffed, underfunded, and ill-equipped to battle the epidemic. The Metropolitan Police commissioner even said troops would be welcome to help fight the crime wave.

Let the gravity of that sink in for a moment. Military troops on city streets is a real possibility for the people of England, all over a rash of stabbings.

But this didn’t happen overnight, and it went almost exactly how every “crazy gun nut” here in America said it would.

Let’s review what landed Britons at this juncture:

1.) The government heavily restricts guns.

The tipping point for gun rights in the United Kingdom was after a 1996 shooting at Dunblane Primary School. The resulting firearms act made virtually all effective self-defense handguns illegal.

2.) Criminals continue breaking the law, but now operate with impunity, safe in the knowledge that their victims won’t shoot back.

Homicides committed by knives appeared to surge after the ban, according to charts from the BBC.

3.) Police resources are stretched to deal with a growing criminal class preying on defanged civilians.

Desperate police turn to laughable strategies, such as the “get a life, bin that knife” collection bins. Criminals, understandably, weren’t lining up to throw away the tools of their trade.

4.) Left with dwindling options to restore order, police are forced to turn to the one organization capable of doing it.

Do you think Britain's gun-control laws are effective?

And if they thought the “Us vs Them” mentality was bad while police were enforcing the laws, just wait until men in camouflage and Kevlar vests are walking the streets with military-grade rifles and equipment. If you haven’t noticed, step 4 is not where you want your society to end up.

America is not quite at the first step, though Democrats are fighting to push us in that direction every day. Without the vigilance of conservative-minded citizens, we could suffer the same fate as those poor souls in England.
