Republican Congressman Drops Truth Bomb on New Congresswoman Ilhan Omar
Apparently, you’re only Palestinian-American if you’re a Democrat.
That’s the takeaway from Rep. Ilhan Omar, the Minnesota Democrat who became one of the first two Muslim women in Congress.
After her swearing-in on Thursday, the controversial representative posted a list of putative firsts for the 116th Congress, including the fact that they had the first Palestinian-American member.
Except they didn’t. That went back to at least 2011, as Justin Amash of Michigan noted.
So, let’s go back to the first tweet from Omar, which proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Twitter posts with the “green checkmark” emoji should be on our list for targeted cultural obsolescence in 2019.
The #116thCongress has SO much to be proud of:
✅1st Somali-American + Refugee
✅1st Muslim women (@RashidaTlaib & I)
✅1st Indigenous women
✅1st Palestinian-American
✅Youngest (28) @AOC
✅Record 100+ women
✅Largest ever Black (55), Hispanic (37), & Progressive (98) caucuses— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) January 3, 2019
It’s interesting that Omar says that the 116th Congress contains the “1st Indigenous women.” I’m guessing she’s pretty much acknowledging that Elizabeth Warren’s 1/1024th Native American claim means she’s 1023/1024ths full of bunkum. However, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan is definitely Palestinian-American.
However, there was a bit of an error in Omar’s calculations.
My father is Palestinian, and I’ve been in Congress since 2011.

Huh. I guess you don’t count as Palestinian-American if you’re a Republican?
Oh, and as Independent Journal Review notes, John E. Sununu of New Hampshire, who entered Congress first in 1997, has Palestinian heritage through his father. But, again, GOP.
Of course, maybe you only qualify as a Palestinian-American to Ilhan Omar if you’re an anti-Semite. Rashida Tlaib is a big fan of BDS, and apparently someone with access to her new office doesn’t think that Israel should exist:

Oh, and Women’s March founder Linda Sarsour — another BDS supporter with links to Louis Farrakhan, he of the infamous “termite” speech — also attended a ceremony marking Tlaib’s swearing-in.
Tlaib managed to wallpaper over most of this with a fair-minded, well-reasoned, erudite peroration regarding what she plans to do regarding President Trump’s impeachment, mind you, but I think it’s safe to state we’re dealing with another anti-Semite here.
But, yes, the 116th Congress has the first anti-Semitic Palestinian-American, something that Ilhan Omar is no doubt proud of. After all, she’s an anti-Semite, too:
Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel. #Gaza #Palestine #Israel

However, actual Palestinian-Americans go a bit further back. And you know, they had significantly better politics, to boot.
