Watch: Marine Vet FedEx Driver Knows Just What to Do When Flagpole Breaks in the Wind
It’s not often that a story about decency and honoring the American flag is covered in the news.
This week is an exception, however, thanks to the actions of one FedEx driver in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
During his shift on Wednesday, the delivery man noticed a flagpole had been knocked over in someone’s yard.
Thanks to the home’s security footage, what happened next was all caught on video.
Initially, the man tried to raise the pole back into position.
When he realized he wasn’t going to be able to lift it, he removed the American flag from the pole and folded it neatly.
He then placed the flag in a box on the porch.
The driver then retrieved the Baltimore Ravens flag from the pole, folded it too and placed it under the American flag.
The woman who owns the home, Gail Cook, shared the security camera footage of the man’s patriotic deed on Facebook. Cook didn’t know who the driver was, but hoped he would be recognized and honored for his actions.
“Today our flag pole broke with the high winds,” Cook wrote. “The FedEx driver saw this when he was driving by and stopped. He not only picked up the flag but folded it properly and put it away safely on our porch. Thanks FedEx!!! I hope he gets the recognition he deserves, I can’t thank him enough!”
Cook also posted a photo of the flags folded and secured in the box on the porch.
Following the outpouring of Facebook comments praising the driver, Cook wrote, “I want to thank everyone that took the time to share this video Bc he certainly deserves all the recognition. He took 5+ mins out of his day during of the most busiest delivery week (after cyber Monday) of the year.”
“I also reached out to FedEx last night to let them know of our appreciation,” she added.
While his name wasn’t mentioned in the report, WJZ noted that the FedEx driver is a Marine veteran.
“It will be nice to see him get the recognition he deserves,” Cook told WJZ.
FedEx’s Twitter feed is filled with posts honoring employees who have gone the extra mile. Let’s hope that now that FedEx has been alerted to the story, this driver will get the acknowledgment he deserves.
This is not the first time a FedEx driver has gone above and beyond to honor the flag. In January, a FedEx driver confronted flag-burners and saved two flags from being torched.
