Avenatti on Who Should Run for President in 2020: 'It Better Be a White Male'

Share

Sleazy attorney Michael Avenatti was, until just a few short weeks ago, considered to be a rising star in the Democratic Party. He had managed to exploit his legal representation of adult film star Stormy Daniels and her lawsuits against President Donald Trump into countless cable news appearances that sent his popularity soaring among the anti-Trump left.

But things haven’t been going as well for Avenatti in recent weeks.

The attorney’s stock among Democrats took a rather large hit after his client’s patently absurd and unbelievable allegations of high school gang rape seemed to scuttle the until-then potentially successful Democrat-led effort at killing the confirmation process of then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

It was a despicable act, and one for which he has now been referred to the Department of Justice for criminal investigation.

Since then, Avenatti has also seen one of Daniels’ lawsuits against Trump dismissed from court — Avenatti and Daniels were ordered to pay Trump’s legal fees — had a judge rule against him in a multimillion-dollar settlement with a former law partner and seen his old law firm — to which he may still be connected — evicted from its leased office after a failure to pay rent for several months.

Yet Avenatti and others on the left still seemed to think the sleazy lawyer would be one of the many Democrats to make a run for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. However, a remark he just made in an interview with Time magazine — already published online, set to hit newsstands Nov. 5 — about the party’s eventual nominee may have just killed his own chances of being that nominee.

The lengthy article seemed to alternate between offering up a glowing piece on Avenatti as a successful fighter who could take on, and defeat, Trump in 2020, only to then also detail the many scandals surrounding the attorney, such as his unpaid taxes, unpaid settlements, unpaid rent and numerous other legal disputes, not to mention his luxurious lifestyle despite being heavily in debt.

It was Avenatti himself who seemingly drove the final nail into the coffin of his political ambitions, as the lawyer made the mistake of stating a decidedly non-politically correct opinion about race that will simply be deemed as unacceptable by the identity politics-obsessed left who control the base of the Democratic Party these days.

Of the eventual Democratic nominee for 2020, Avenatti said, “I think it better be a white male.”

Do you think Avenatti just effectively ended his political career before it got started?

Avenatti quickly added that he personally wished that weren’t the case, but nevertheless proceeded to assert that it was “undeniable” that people generally listened more closely to white males than individuals who are female and/or of another race. He even pointed to his own success representing Daniels and immigrant mothers separated from their children at the border as evidence of his assertion.

“When you have a white male making the arguments, they carry more weight. Should they carry more weight? Absolutely not. But do they? Yes,” Avenatti said.

This appears to be a rather straightforward example of the “soft bigotry” of the left, which is characterized by the belief held and sometimes expressed by elitist liberals that minorities — and to an extent, women — are largely inferior and helpless and require the assistance of do-gooder liberals like themselves to make it in this racist patriarchal society.

Unsurprisingly, Avenatti’s insistence that the 2020 Democratic nominee be a white male sparked controversy on social media among all parts of the political spectrum, with many accusing him of being racist and perpetuating white supremacy or other such talking points from the left.

Right-leaning users merely laughed at the utter hypocrisy of it all.

The swift backlash brought about a denial from Avenatti that he’d ever said as much about the need for Democrats to nominate a white male to square off against Trump, which prompted Time to separately release parts of the transcripts of the interviews with the lawyer — ostensibly to offer context in his defense but which only made his “soft bigotry” toward minorities and women that much more apparent.

The notion that people only listen to white males instead of women or minorities is a ridiculous idea that has emerged from the festering fever dreams of the left, who still seem to think that we live in a society ruled by white supremacy and the patriarchy, and that the general public bases all or most of their political decisions on the gender and race of the politician putting forth the ideas that need to be decided upon.

That is a distinctly liberal and progressive notion, as conservatives generally ignore such trivial matters — in the big scheme of things — as gender and race, and instead focus in on the content of an individual’s character and the constitutionality and feasibility of their ideas.

Meanwhile, you have plenty of folks on the left who, out of one side of their mouths claim white males have no right to talk about anything with regard to race or sex, while at the same time say things such as white males are the only individuals with enough gravitas to be heard by the broader public. It can’t be both.

Avenatti likely meant no disrespect or harm to minorities and women when he suggested that Democrats would be best served by nominating a white male to face off against Trump in 2020, but his transparent effort at virtue signaling fell flat and created an immense backlash that quite possibly killed any hope his political ambitions may have had, before they even really had a chance to get off the ground.
