Herman Cain: Trump Elected Because Americans Are Waking Up to Media Bias [Video]

Share

In an interview with the Western Journal, 2012 GOP presidential primary candidate and Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain said that the media had “overshot the runway” when it came to their invective against President Donald Trump — and that it was part of the reason why he got elected.

Cain gave the answer in response to a question from the Western Journal’s Josh Manning, who suggested that “maybe (the media) have turned up the temperature too much in the last two years, and people are starting to wake up to what they’re doing.”

When asked what he thought about that, Cain, who has never been shy about voicing his opinions, responded, “I think they have overshot the runway. People are waking up.”

“I am encouraged as I travel and I talk to people, they’re beginning to see through the hypocrisy of the media — the left-leaning hyperbole of the media,” Cain said.

He added that “the ones that aren’t waking up are the ones that, quite frankly, are looking at what I call looking through the narrow lens of the media.”

“That’s not America,” Cain said. “America is a very wide lens, but the liberal media won’t report on it.”

Instead, Cain said, the media focuses on three places for their idea of what America is: New York City, Washington, and Hollywood.

“Go to Omaha, Nebraska, where I used to live,” Cain said. “That’s not their definition of America.”

And while the majority of the people in this country don’t see the same America the liberal media does, Cain said, “the danger is some people are susceptible to that hypocrisy, that narrow lens of the media.”

Do you think that the media's attacks helped get Donald Trump elected?

“Conservatives are looking at their lives through a very wide lens,” Cain concluded. “Which is why Donald Trump got elected.”

However, the media’s lens hasn’t gotten any wider in recent years. If anything, it’s gotten a bit like a magnifying glass on ants in the grass.

The good news is that Americans do seem to be waking up, and the evidence isn’t just anecdotal. A Morning Consult/Politico poll in June found that 71 percent of Republicans trusted the president to tell the truth over just 7 percent for the national media, with 22 percent professing not to know.

That gap is narrowing among Americans in general, as well, with 36 percent trusting the media to 33 percent trusting Trump and 31 percent unsure.

In a May poll, those numbers were 38 percent trusting the media, 32 percent trusting Trump and 29 percent unsure. The number trusting the media also shrank month-over-month among all three categories — Democrats, Independents and Republicans.

The challenge, of course, is to make that awakening pay off at the polls in November.

The midterm elections tend to benefit the party out of power in the White House — and that party is the one favored by the establishment media with that magnifying glass. They call Trump a racist and marginalize African-American supporters like Herman Cain and conservative commentator Candace Owens.

What they want is to burn the GOP and allies of the Trump administration — not just electorally, but culturally.

Unless every supporter of the Trump agenda turns out to vote in the November midterms, that’s exactly what the media is going to do.
