Antifa Look To Shut Down ICE with the Help of 'Trusted Radicals'

Share

A Texas Antifa student group elaborated Monday on its effort to work with “trusted radicals” to send out text message alerts warning subscribers of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents’ presence.

Revolutionary Horizon, a group associated with the University of Texas at San Antonio, made the remark on Twitter.

The organization describes itself as “anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-sexist” and is “committed to building and supporting the popular revolt of all oppressed people against the exploitative system of capitalism.”

The group tweeted: “In light of the increasing severity of ICE’s presence in the San Antonio community, we’re working with trusted radicals in the community to implement a text alert ICE-watch. text ‘satx161’ to 84483 to sign up to receive alerts anytime ICE is spotted in our community!”

“No one is illegal!” the group said in the accompanying graphic.

This is not the first campaign the Revolutionary Horizon has launched against ICE. The student group made a video depicting one of its members burning ICE flyers in January.

Revolutionary Horizon has also called for the “immediate disarming of UTSA police officers of any and all lethal and military-grade equipment” and “a complete and total disbanding of the UTSA Police Department” over the course of six months, according to Campus Reform.

“Technologically speaking, there isn’t much else to be done, we have the alert system set up and active,” Revolutionary Horizon told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“The largest and most tedious step is simply to get the word out about the alert system and spread awareness of it to the communities most vulnerable and in need of such a system.”

The group explained that it hopes to “integrat[e] a horizontal, community-driven aspect to the system that allows for anyone already signed up to receive alerts to be able to send alerts of their own through the system when they spot ICE in their area. Figuring out how to do that and how to ensure that the information remains as reliable and decentralized as possible is our biggest challenge.”

Revolutionary Horizon, which UTSA spokesman Joe Izbrand told The DCNF is not a “registered student organization” at the school, is not the only group with anarcho-communist tendencies on Texas campuses.

The Revolutionary Student Front, a group at the University of Texas Austin, has tweeted “bricks belong best thrown at pig heads” and hosts “self-defense” courses.

The organization has also hosted a “Revolutionary Mental Health Program” “to address the mental health needs of students in a way that would primarily serve to politicize and strengthen them, to become more committed to revolution and more capable of carrying it out.”
