Creepy Biden Caught Off Guard as Heckler Brings Up 'Child Molestation' at Book Signing

Share

The Time’s Up movement just caught up with Joe Biden.

The former vice president has been the target of talk for years about getting handsy with women and girls that come into his orbit, but rarely has an accusation gotten as public as the moment Biden faced this weekend during a book tour stop.

And it’s bringing up all kinds of memories.

According to the Wilmington News Journal, the incident took place Sunday at Wilmington’s Grand Opera House (known locally as The Grand). A man in the audience loudly demanded, “What about the girls you molested on C-SPAN at the Senate swearing in?”

The man wasn’t specific, but with Biden he didn’t have to be. The former vice president – who served as a senator from Delaware for 36 years before becoming Barack Obama’s No. 2 man – is legendary for his wandering hands when it comes to women.

A YouTube video from 2015 breaks it down nicely (and includes the swearing-in the heckler was likely referring to).

In the era of #MeToo and Time’s Up, Biden’s behavior should have gotten a lot more publicity than it has so far, but then, Biden is a Democrat, and even a possible contender for the party’s presidential nomination in 2020.

Like Bill Clinton, he has the guaranteed protection of media partisanship when it comes to scandals and potential scandals.

As a 2015 Twitter post by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro put it:

The questioner in the Sunday case never got an answer. Biden, probably caught off guard by a zinger from what he had to assume was a friendly hometown audience, simply responded, “This is not Trump world,” as the crowd booed the man who heckled their hero.

Should Joe Biden stop making himself a part of American public life?

But incidents like this aren’t going away if Biden stays in the public eye – and especially if he pursues the presidency in two years.

As Erin Gloria Ryan, a columnist for the liberal Daily Beast put it:

“But the #MeToo moment, the post-Weinstein moment, whatever you want to call it, isn’t about only sexual assault; it’s about women standing up and saying that when men do things to them non-consensually, women don’t like it. It hurts us. It should stop. As long as Democrats want to be taken seriously when they take a stand against Republicans who commit sexual misconduct, they have to demonstrate that they are equally uncomfortable or outraged when Democrats do it.”

The headline on that column was: “Dear Lord Would Joe Biden Be a Terrible Candidate for These Times.”

If Biden doesn’t understand that yet, Sunday’s heckling should give him a warning. And he shouldn’t be fooled by the crowd that supported him in Wilmington.

His time’s up.
