Drudge Twitter Account Posts Actual Pic of Twitter Censoring His Account

Share

The user behind an unofficial account that tweets out Drudge Report-approved stories alleges that Twitter changed his settings to mark his posts as sensitive material, according to a tweet released by the account holder this weekend.

Addressed to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, the tweet read: “Dear @jack please stop your staff from changing my account settings without my knowledge. I am not a porn star or terrorist. Just some dude retweeting a news source for now 10 years, based in (San Francisco), your hometown.

“Love @Twitter but it’s become weird.”

The tweet showed the account’s settings for “Tweet media,” which showed the box named “Mark media you Tweet as containing material that may be sensitive” as being checked.

It would be unusual for someone to check this box — which limits the amount of reach individual tweets might have — unless the tweets routinely contained violence or adult material.

While there was nothing that proved that the owner of @Drudge_Report had the settings changed by Twitter, or hadn’t changed them on his own, it would again be an unusual step to take for anyone versed in Twitter.

The accusation was similar to one made by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes in an appearance on Fox Business Network on June 4.

“I think what the American people need to understand is that there’s bias against conservatives and Republicans all across this country,” Nunes said during the appearance.

Do you think Twitter changed this user's settings?

“And now as you see things — it’s always been there with newspapers and television, but now as you see it getting to the internet,” he continued.

“It’s one of the challenges with (messaging to) millennials,” he said. “So this censorship of conservatives and Republicans and conservative values continues in this country and here in California we’re on the front lines.

“I just looked on Twitter. Drudge — the Drudge Report is being censored today, so for the last three or four days I haven’t been able to get on the Drudge Report because it’s being censored on Twitter.”

Nunes’ office later clarified that the tweets hadn’t reached him because they had been marked as “sensitive content.” At the time, Twitter did not return comment.

It’s unclear which account that Nunes was referring to, although it was quite likely this one. Drudge himself rarely tweets, even though he has a verified account, and the @Drudge_Report account is by far the largest fan-run Drudge page on Twitter.

This is hardly the only incident highlighting Twitter’s bias as of late. The most notable one, perhaps, is when Dorsey was forced to apologize to Turning Point USA pundit Candace Owens after Twitter’s news feed labeled her “far-right.”

If this turns out to be accurate — and it’s happened to other conservative users — this could be way, way bigger than that.
