Ouch: Video of Trudeau Appears to Show Fake Facial Hair Coming Unglued, Falling

Share

After Justin Trudeau got home to Ottawa from the G-7 meeting and announced that he was going to put additional tariffs on the United States starting on July 1, it sparked the first post-conference debate involving the Canadian prime minister. Within hours, however, a new — albeit somewhat less serious — controversy had developed.

Was Trudeau wearing fake eyebrows?

This sounds like an absolutely outrageous thing to suggest. After all, it’s not like fake eyebrows would lend anyone extra gravitas and surely someone would notice in this day and age.

However, take a look at this video taken Thursday when Trudeau was speaking with reporters at the G-7 in a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron:

Wow. That definitely looks like an eyebrow toupee. The only questions would be a) is there some sort of visual illusion at play here and b)  if not, why?

As for the first question, there were definitely some doubters out there, particularly BuzzFeed’s Ishmael N. Daro:

In addition to the trick-of-the-light theory, several people noted that Trudeau had unusual eyebrow geometry:

I’m not quite sure whether or not there’s any possible truth to the fake eyebrow theory, but I think it’s definitively awesome that we’re talking about hair thickness along the supraorbital ridge as if this was a frame-by-frame analysis of the Zapruder film.

Others were less inclined to believe any of this disproof, or simply just decided the story was too good to pass up, including notable Canadian conservative Stephen Taylor:

Do you think Justin Trudeau was wearing fake eyebrows?
Even Russia’s English propaganda arm, RT, picked up the story — although the coverage didn’t comment on whether or not the eyebrow hairpiece theory might have been true. (The Russians were probably just jealous they didn’t get an invitation to the G-7, after all.)

A poll of RT’s readers, however, showed them leaning toward the fake-eyebrow explanation by a margin of 81 percent to 19 percent as of Monday morning.

So, what’s the real deal? I somehow doubt we’ll hear anything from Trudeau on the matter. It seems like a pretty unserious affair to this author. Then again, Justin Trudeau also seems somewhat unserious to me.

And, if a trade war erupts with the United States, perhaps he ought to start using a fake mustache and a cap around Ottawa, as well.
