Impeachment Expert Bill Clinton Weighs In on Claims Trump Should Be Impeached

Share

Former president and defeated first-husband prospect Bill Clinton is back in the news, which is usually never good news for Bill Clinton. There are usually two reasons our nation’s 42nd chief executive finds himself back in the headlines: He’s either making a fool of himself by showing how out of touch he is politically or… well, you know.

In this case, it’s the former reason. In an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning” this weekend, the noted impeachment expert said that if Donald Trump were a Democrat president, he would already be impeached over Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation.

Clinton was appearing with hack novelist James Patterson, with whom he has co-written a book called “The President is Missing.” No, it’s not about his eight years in the Oval Office, but instead a political thriller.

However, in between softball questions on the book, Clinton was asked by Mo Rocca for his thoughts on the Trump-Russia investigation.

“I think they have tried, by and large, to cover this investigation based on the facts,” the former president said when asked if the news media has been fair to the current occupant of the White House.

“I think if the roles were reversed — now, this is me just talking, but it’s based on my experience! — I think if it were a Democratic president, and these facts were present, most people I know in Washington believe impeachment hearings would have begun already.”

Yes, he certainly does have experience in that department. I will give him that. I’m also sure that the husband of the woman Donald Trump defeated is a perfectly unbiased judge in this situation.

As for whether or not Trump would be subject to impeachment hearings, I didn’t exactly hear the follow-up question that should have made itself most apparent — for what?

So far, the persons closest to the president who’ve been charged and/or pleaded guilty in connection with the special counsel’s inquiry have been former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and campaign manager Paul Manafort. Nothing in those cases actually ties the president to any wrongdoing with Russia, mind you, but that hasn’t stopped the nothingburger from repeatedly being served up by the media.

Do you agree with Bill Clinton?

President Clinton, meanwhile, was impeached due to the fact that he lied about an affair under oath in a deposition involving a lawsuit that accused him of propositioning and exposing himself to a woman — a lawsuit he later settled out of court.

During and after the Paula Jones case, the former president has been repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct, up to and including rape.

So, yes, there is that difference. But then again, Clinton has always considered himself the victim, as evidenced in this clip of Clinton defending himself to ABC News’ Peter Jennings:

This is a man for whom the media bent over backwards to be biased toward. Remember how CNN earned the sobriquet “Clinton News Network” during his presidency?

And look at him when he’s asked a question with the slightest degree of critical edge to it: “Don’t go there, Peter!” This is proof to Clinton that the media machine has been unfair to him. And now he thinks it’s being fair to Trump and that Trump would have been impeached were he a Democrat. Because that’s why they went after Clinton — he was a Democrat.

This December will mark 20 years since the impeachment of Bill Clinton. In the interim, it’s apparent that the impeachment expert has learned absolutely nothing about impeachment.
