Giuliani: I Know the President, I Know Comey and He's a Disgraceful Liar

Share

There’s a reason Rudy Giuliani has a reputation for not pulling his punches.

And when the former mayor of New York and outspoken defender of President Donald Trump sat down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Wednesday, he lived up to it in spades.

This time, liberal hero James Comey was the target.

In a lengthy interview that covered the endless investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into “Russian collusion” with the Trump presidential campaign, Giuliani made his feelings about Comey crystal clear.

Since it was Trump’s firing of Comey in May 2017 that actually led to Mueller’s appointment as special counsel, Comey has emerged as the crux of an investigation that has so far produced zero public evidence of Trump’s working with the Russians.

But it has produced plenty of questions about just how honest Comey is, and Giuliani had an answer for them.

“I know James Comey, I know the president,” Giuliani told Hannity. “Sorry, Jim, you’re a liar. A disgraceful liar. Every FBI agent in America has his head down because of you.

“It would have been good for God if God had kept you out of being head of the FBI.”

Do you think James Comey is a liar?

Not a whole lot of sugar-coating on that, is there?

It’s important to remember that this isn’t a guy who gets his impressions from a Facebook feed.

As United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, long before he became mayor of New York City, Giuliani actually hired Comey as an assistant U.S. attorney 1987. That mean’s he’s known Comey for more than 20 years, and he’s obviously learned a thing or two about him.

A glowing New York magazine profile of Comey from 2003 noted that Comey “takes pains to distance himself from the former mayor.”

Fifteen years later, he might want to take even more pains to stay out of Giuliani’s way.

Giuliani has a reputation for not pulling his punches, after all. Considering his current role as attack dog on Trump’s legal team, he’s not likely to be holding back any time soon.

Especially when it comes to Jim Comey.
