Watch: The Obama Clip Absolutely No DACA Supporters Want Getting Out
[jwplayer RiKYINzT]
If there’s the one thing that everyone in the media seems to be able to publicly agree upon when it comes to DACA, it’s that it’s humane. No humane edict unconstitutionally passed down from the throne has ever been so humane. It was an edict written in the milk of human kindness, penned by the quill of none other than President Barack Hussein Obama, our dear leader.
This is the entrenched dogma about an unconstitutional order issued by a president who wasn’t terribly interested in securing the border because he thought it would secure him votes. It’s repeated in a way that almost makes you think it’s true. It almost makes you think that border security is only the province of the paranoid and the xenophobic.
Yet, there’s one Democrat senator who was willing to stand up for border security.
Sure, he did it a while ago. Sure, he was a lot younger then. Sure, it was a different time.
And sure, it’s an old enough clip that you might not even be able to recognize the man in it.
But I present to you a Democrat senator willing to stand up for border security in a way that nobody on the left would dare to now. I present to you a statesman willing to take a stand against illegal immigration. I present to you, from the great state of Illinois, Sen. Barack Obama, who would never ever be saying this for reasons of political expediency:
“We all agree on the need to better secure the border and to punish employers who choose to hire illegal immigrants,” Obama said in the 2005 speech.
“We are a generous and welcoming people here in the United States,” Obama said.
“But those who enter the country illegally and those who employ them disrespect the rule of law, and they show disregard for those who are following the law.
“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently and lawfully to become immigrants in this country.”
Wow. This young Obama sounds like stand-up guy! A moderate Democrat, to be sure — one who’s not too far to the left. I’m sure if he seeks higher office, this young man will never betray these values.
Yes, of course, this is more than ten years ago. However, the basic points here still hold.
DACA essentially rewards those who have broken the rule of law. It puts them and their children ahead of those who followed the law. Border security is paramount, even as we are a generous and welcoming people.
This was right 13 years ago, when Sen. Obama first said it.
It’s still right 13 years later, when former President Obama and his party seek to salvage part of his legacy: an unconstitutional act which went against everything you see him saying here.
