South Dakota Just Slammed the Hammer Down on LGBT Agenda with New Legislation

Share

In a blow to the progressive movement determined to indoctrinate our youth, South Dakota could become the first state to ban public schools from teaching about gender identity.

The legislation, sponsored by Republican Sen. Phil Jensen, would apply to students in kindergarten through the seventh grade, The Associated Press reported.

If Senate Bill 160 passes, South Dakota would be the first state to prohibit gender identity from being taught in its public school classrooms.

South Dakota Education Department spokeswoman Mary Stadick Smith said in an email that she was not aware of gender identity currently being taught about in South Dakota schools.

Jensen said his constituents were concerned it might become an issue in the future, and are worried about teachers giving children instruction about issues that are not age-appropriate while students in the state are failing to master the basics.

According to the senator, state test scores in math and English are falling, and he thinks those subjects are what’s actually important and appropriate for schools to be teaching.

“I think we need to be focusing on reading, writing and arithmetic,” Jensen said.

Common sense says Jensen is absolutely correct. Teachers are supposed to teach children what they need to learn to be functioning members of society, not indoctrinate them with left-wing doctrine.

Jensen also helped pen House Bill 1296, which is a proposal that would reportedly “require each public school district to write and make available its policy regarding transgender students’ access to restrooms and locker rooms,” the Argus Leader reported.

Do you think public schools are no place for gender indoctrination?

Moreover, Jensen also introduced Senate Bill 202, which would require those who have a public “multi-person or unisex restroom” to hang signs informing others that someone of the opposite sex could use the restroom, the Leader reported.

“Wouldn’t you want to know if there’s someone of the opposite sex in the bathroom before you use a multiuse facility?” Jensen told reporters. “To me, it’s a common-sense bill.”

Sadly, common sense is one thing severely lacking in progressive leftists, who have completely embraced the gender identity movement with open arms, while subsequently shoving it down the throats of children.

The left will denounce the legislation, calling it a step backward. Nevertheless, public schools are in no way meant to be brain-washing chambers.

Despite how logical this seems, the bill could face an uphill battle. Even if it were to pass the Senate, South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard, a Republican, would need to sign it. Daugaard vetoed a bill in 2016 that would have required transgender students to use the restroom that correlated with their biological sexes.

“I don’t know that our standards of education are properly the subject of legislative enactments,” he explained, according to the Leader.

The Leader reported that the legislation had not yet been scheduled for committee hearings.
