Drunk "Dreamer" Kills Toddler After Striking Ambulance

Share

“Americans are dreamers too,” President Donald Trump pointed out during his State of the Union address. Democrats refused to applaud that line… but now the dreams of a Virginia family have been shattered into a thousand pieces after an illegal alien killed a 3-year-old boy.

Over the weekend, an ambulance carrying a young toddler and his mother was struck by a car driven by Jose Duran Romero, a 27-year-old alien from El Salvador who was in the country illegally.

According to Fox News, Romero was incredibly drunk when he collided with the ambulance. Even two hours after the crash, his blood-alcohol level was 0.19 percent on a breathalyzer, which is over twice the legal limit.

He would have been illegally driving regardless of his intoxication level. It turns out that in addition to ignoring immigration and drunk driving laws, Jose Romero wasn’t even licensed to drive.

“A witness described what Romero looked like to police after the crash. He had ‘bloodshot, glassy eyes,’ ‘slurred speech’ and looked ‘grossly impaired,'” reported KGHP News. “Court documents also show Romero has never had a driver’s license.”

The child, his mother, and two paramedics in the ambulance were all injured in the crash. The toddler, who has not been identified for privacy reasons, fought for his life for a day after the accident, but did not make it.

“Lt. Rick Newnum said the boy had been in stable condition before the crash but emerged from the wreck with life-threatening injuries. Newnum didn’t have further information about why the boy was being taken to a hospital before the crash,” explained the Winston-Salem Journal.

The grandfather of the child spoke briefly to the media and called the crash “devastating.”

Even after the collision, the illegal alien Romero showed no regard for the lives of others but fled the scene. Another man who was a passenger in the car, identified by police as Andres Leon, also ran from the crash without doing anything to help.

Could immigration enforcement have prevented this?

A bystander saw the incident and managed to detain one of the fleeing men until police arrived. The other occupant of the vehicle was tracked down by cops shortly after.

Jose Romero may have no regard for the law, but he’s about to get a close look at the American justice system.

“Romero is in jail on a $50,000 secured bond. He’s charged with DWI, failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash and driving without a license,” KGHP News reported.

“Federal authorities also put Romero under an immigration detainer. The detainer will allow U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents to take Romero into custody once he is released from local custody,” the station elaborated.

This is the part of the “immigrant dreamers” debate that the left never seems to acknowledge: Their actions affect other people.

Sometimes the people impacted by illegal aliens are other immigrants following the rules and waiting in line, and sometimes they are innocent 3-year-old boys who have their lives cut off by selfishness.

When somebody shows a flagrant disregard for major laws — at, say, a nation’s border — there’s a pretty good chance they will ignore other rules as well. Actions have consequences, and it’s time to take a hard look at the real-world effects of illegal immigrants.
