Senate Republicans Troll Schumer and Dems After Gov't Shutdown With Special Gift
Senate Democrats, under the guidance of Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, refused to pass a short-term spending bill Friday, forcing the federal government into a partial shutdown.
The main issue was the Democrats’ demand that a legislative fix for the illegal immigrants enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program be included, despite such legislation not even existing and the fact that it had nothing to do with the funding bill.
Schumer and his Democrat colleagues finally caved on Monday and voted in favor of reopening the government on little more than a promise from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that DACA legislation would be up for debate over the next few weeks. In other words, they got absolutely nothing.
According to the Independent Journal Review, that turn of events prompted the National Republican Senatorial Committee to have a little bit of fun at the expense of their counterparts.

That little bit of fun involved trolling Senate Democrats by handing out freshly made-in-America t-shirts which read, “I shut down the government and all I got was this lousy T-shirt.”
A press release from the NRSC stated, “Senate Democrats wasted the entire country’s time with the pointless Schumer Shutdown, jeopardizing national security and delaying an extension of health insurance for 8.9 million children, while gaining absolutely nothing in return, other than a headache and bad press.”
“The NRSC decided to get Senate Dems a little something to remember the Schumer Shutdown by so they won’t walk away totally empty-handed,” the release continued.
“The NRSC will be giving a Schumer Shutdown t-shirt, manufactured right here in the U.S.A. as our economy continues to boom under GOP leadership, to each member of the Senate Democratic Caucus so that they won’t forget what happens when they shut down the federal government for no reason and with no endgame in mind.”
According to The Washington Free Beacon, NRSC communications director Katie Martin had fun distributing the T-shirts to the offices of several prominent Senate Democrats.
Aside from Schumer, Martin also made it a point to deliver a shirt to Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey, Florida Sen. Bill Nelson and California Sen. Kamala Harris, who is thought to be positioning herself for a challenge against President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

The deputy communications director of the NRSC, Bob Salera, attempted to deliver a shirt to the office of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, but the kind offer was declined.
These shirts are absolutely hilarious because they are absolutely true. Senate Democrats truly derived nothing of substance or value from the three-day shutdown that they, and they alone, are responsible for.
Seriously, all that they received in exchange for re-opening the government was a promise to take up DACA as part of broader legislation addressing immigration reform in the next couple of weeks — which was already the plan prior to the shutdown shenanigans over the weekend. The Democrats played themselves and deserve to be trolled.
