Anti-Trumpers Realize Massive Mistake When "Fire and Fury" Book Comes in the Mail

Share

If you were one of the multitude of gullible people willing to buy — in both the literal and metaphorical sense — Michael Wolff’s book-length hit piece on Donald Trump, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House”, there’s probably a certain level of gullibility at play.

After all, this is the same group that seemed to buy the whole “Gorilla Channel” story was a real thing.

However, it isn’t just Michael Wolff and his associates who are making a windfall off of the general credulousness of their target demographic. It’s also made Randall Hansen a very popular author.

Who’s Randall Hansen? Why, he’s a University of Toronto professor who’s on some of Amazon’s bestseller lists, according to the London Guardian. However, it’s not because he’s a famous author or that his writing has suddenly come into fashion.

Rather, it because one of his works shares the same name as Wolff’s book.

Even though “Fire and Fury: The Allied Bombing of Germany, 1942-1945” has a bomber on its cover as opposed to the intense visage of Trump, the book has somehow managed to fool buyers into thinking that it is, yes, the same tome that everyone who doesn’t really have anything intelligent to say is talking about.

Now, many of them are getting furious as they receive the book in the mail and realize their massive mistake.

“When it was released 10 years ago, Randall Hansen’s book performed as expected, racking up strong sales that gradually tapered off,” The Guardian reported. “But this week the Canadian professor’s 2008 book unexpectedly leapt back on to bestseller lists.”

“I haven’t seen this level of interest since the book first came out,” Hansen, a political science professor, told the U.K. publication.

“It amused me,” Hansen said. “Part of me thought: can people really be that dumb to be confusing these books?”

I’ll answer that question with a question of my own: Have you seen the kind of person who is actually interested Wolff’s work, a sub-Kitty Kelley piece of bosh even the author acknowledges isn’t entirely true?

The bomber somehow wasn’t a tipoff.

At least the buyers, through no dint of their own volition, ended up with what has to be a better book. Yet, they seem to be angry at Hansen for their own stupidity, for whatever reason.

“I had a couple of bitter comments,” Hansen said.

“There was one tweet, he came forward and said, ‘I bought this book by accident and there’s no way I’m reading it,’ in kind of this accusatory tone. I thought, well, it’s not quite my fault, mate.”

It’s worth noting that Hansen won’t know how many copies he sold of his book until the royalty check arrives next month. However, even though Hansen is an anti-Trumper himself — he calls the president a “warmongering, unstable, deranged demagogue” — let’s also note that his book, at least, also involved research that wasn’t just contradictory hearsay and is about a subject that’s actually interesting without any media hype.

Plus, he’s a Canadian academic; one doesn’t necessarily expect members of that class to don the MAGA cap and start chanting “lock her up!” (Unless you’re talking about Jordan Peterson, I suppose.)

As for those who bought the book by accident, all I have to say is this: Thank you for proving me right about Wolff’s potential readership.
