ICE Director Calls for Criminal Charges Against Cali Politicians Promoting Sanctuary State

Share

Maybe this will get their attention.

Elected officials in liberal states like California love pandering to their base by defying federal immigration policy, passing “sanctuary” laws that make certain jurisdictions in the United States magnets for foreigners who see no problem with entering the country illegally.

But the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement is fed up.

In a tough-talking interview this week with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto, ICE acting chief Thomas Homan suggested the California officials implementing its new “sanctuary state” law – which took effect Jan. 1 – should face criminal charges.

Because the impact of their policies amounts to victimizing the Golden State’s legal residents.

“The state of California better hang on tight because the smuggling organizations are using the sanctuary cities law – the sanctuary state law as a selling ploy. More illegal aliens will be coming to California. More criminal aliens will be coming to California. So, Californians just bit off a lot more than they can chew,” Homan told Cavuto.

“This is a victimization of the American community. This isn’t the America I grew up in. We’ve got to take these sanctuary cities on. We’ve got to take them to court and start charging some of these politicians with crimes.”

Those are the kind of words liberals never heard during the eight disastrous years of the Obama presidency, but it’s what they need to hear now.

Check out Homan’s interview here:

The bill making California a “sanctuary state” was signed in November by California Gov. Jerry Brown, and according to the Los Angeles Times, is “vastly limiting who state and local law enforcement agencies can hold, question and transfer at the request of federal immigration authorities.”

According to the Times, the measure struck all the right notes for California liberals:

“Supporters have hailed it as part of a broader effort by majority Democrats in the California Legislature to shield more than 2.3 million immigrants living illegally in the state.”

Homan took a decidedly less benign view of the law – and vowed to do something about it.

“I’m going to significantly increase our enforcement presence in California. We’re already doing it,” he told Cavuto.

“We’re going to detail additional enforcement assets to California. California better hold on tight. They’re about to see a lot more special agents, a lot more deportation officers in the state of California. If the politicians in California don’t want to protect their communities, then ICE will.”

Homan seems to understand what the Democrat officials of California obviously do not – that the purpose of government is to protect its citizens – not make it easier for illegally arriving foreigners to victimize them.

The law has already sparked protests, with California road signs being targeted with additions mocking the new policy.

But roadside pranks probably aren’t enough to get any Golden State liberal to change the state’s policies.

Maybe the prospect of facing criminal charges for abetting a crime against American citizens in the form of illegal immigration might make them pay attention.
