Bruce Springsteen's Son Reportedly Follows Dream of Becoming Firefighter: 'Love Your Brave Heart'

It’s difficult to be the child of someone who is rich and famous. Whether or not you like it, most people are going to form their opinions of you based on your limelight parent.

Sometimes the fame helps kids get opportunities they would not otherwise have (for better or worse), but sometimes kids just want to make a name for themselves.

Bruce Springsteen’s name is instantly recognizable — but how about Jessica Springsteen? Evan Springsteen? Sam Springsteen? For many people, the last name steals the show.

Bruce and his wife Patti’s oldest child is Evan. Now 29, he’s a host and program director for Sirius XM satellite radio according to the Asbury Park Press, which makes sense — music is in his blood.

Meanwhile, the couple’s 27-year-old daughter, Jessica, has made a name for herself in the equestrian world, showjumping.

“I was always really focused on riding,” she told Parade. “Ever since I was four years old, it’s what I wanted to do.”

Patti Springsteen, Bruce’s wife, is a singer-songwriter. Like most family-oriented moms, Patti is all about getting everyone together.

“When we’re all together at Colts Neck, Bruce and I still get up at seven every morning to make breakfast for the kids: oatmeal, pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, the whole deal,” she told Express in 2011.

“I know it sounds corny but we like to have that time together in the morning as a family before everyone goes their separate ways. We’ve always done it that way.”

And like many caring fathers, Bruce’s biggest hope is that his children feel comfortable enough to push for their goals.

“If I can wish for anything for my children it’s that they can pursue their dreams and know that if things don’t work out, it’s OK,” he said. “Patti and I will always be there for them.”

And the biggest dream that was recently accomplished? The youngest Springsteen, Sam, has reportedly achieved his dream of becoming a firefighter.

On August 1, his proud mom posted a photo of him on Instagram with a caption sprinkled liberally with emojis: “CONGRATULATIONS,” she wrote. “You followed your dreams…JC firefighter .. Stay safe .. love your brave heart.”

According to Monmouth County Fire Marshal Henry Stryker III, when Sam graduated from the Monmouth County Academy in 2014, the career seemed like a good fit.

“He’s very smart,” the fire marshal told the Asbury Park Press. “He enjoyed what he was doing.”

Since then, he’s been working at three different fire departments (Colts Neck, Long Branch and North Wildwood). He made the news in 2016 when he and others helped rescue an injured boater and that boater’s passenger, who had become stuck waist-deep in mud.

While Sam’s mother is clearly excited over this alleged progress, authorities are keeping mum about whether or not Sam has actually joined the Jersey City Fire Department.
