Presley's Heartwarming Journey After Being Rescued Weighing Just 53 LBS, Covered in Open Wounds
I have always wondered if there is a special place in heaven for those tender hearts who care for all creatures great and small.
There are so many pets in need of loving homes. According to ASPCA, “approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year.”
The need is great, and the need for willing families is in demand. Of those 6.5 million shelter animals, only an estimated 3.2 million are adopted.
It is thanks to rescue shelters, foster families, and those willing to provide a permanent home that these animals survive.
One story about a rescued German Shepherd will melt your heart. In fact, this dog’s story might just make you want to run out and adopt a pet yourself.
Coastal German Shepherd Rescue — a non-profit located in Orange County, California — has made it their mission to find forever families for neglected and abandoned dogs in Southern California.
In 2015, they introduced the world to “Posse,” a German Shepherd who weighed just 53 pounds when he was found.
“Imagine the pain you’d feel when you are covered in open wounds, blood trickling down your legs, all while you are terribly underweight,” the CGSR wrote on Facebook. “To say this young boy was neglected would be an understatement.”
The poor pup faced a host of problems ranging from bacterial infections, to anemia and even mange — a skin disease that causes itching, rash, and hair loss, according to PetMD.
He certainly didn’t look like much, but the wonderful people at CGSR helped bring Posse back to full health. Soon, a foster family was found.
“Then he met a family who would change his whole life,” CGSR shared. “Posse, now known as Presley, is a sweet boy who loves children, is a leaner, adores his mom more than anything else in the world.”
The family sat for a photo shoot with the newest member of their family. Dogma Pet Portraits captured the priceless moment.
Presley made a huge impact on his new family right away. It’s clear from the looks on their smiling faces that they couldn’t be happier to have Presley in their lives.
“His new sister, Aida, wrote this note for school last year and we think it says it all,” CGSR wrote. “This lucky boy is loved, cared for, and happier than he could’ve ever imagined!”
Don’t you just love happy endings? And there is nothing quite like a happy ending that includes a sweet pet who is loved.

I was just telling Lorraine OhHai from Coastal that the most common comment we get from people when they see him-aside from telling us how handsome and sweet he is is that he always seems to be prancing when he walks. It makes me feel good to agree with them, and to say that it is because he is happy-and that sweet boy deserves to be happy!”
