Chick-fil-A Employee Jumps Into Action To Save Woman's Life in Middle of Restaurant
Whenever we hear a story about an employee going above and beyond, there’s one place of business that often comes to mind — Chick-fil-A.
There’s no doubt about it — Chick-fil-A has a reputation for hiring some of the finest and kindest people around.
We love the friendly atmosphere, the instrumental Christian music, and the simple fact that it is a Chick-fil-A employee’s “pleasure to serve” us.
One Chick-fil-A employee from San Antonio, Texas, not only supports eating more “chikin,” but also appears to support heroism at its finest.
Twenty-two-year-old Shelby Montgomery is the Director of Hospitality at the Chick-fil-A in Rolling Oaks. She’s no stranger to kindness, and her boss, Joshua Cunningham, has nothing but good things to say about her.
“She literally has a servant’s heart. Shelby is the ideal team member…” Cunningham told KENS 5. “She just has a sweet spirit about her.”
That sweet spirit of hers was caught on camera, too. When a woman started choking inside the restaurant, Montgomery swooped in to save the day.
“I heard someone say, ‘Call 911, someone’s choking.’ As soon as I heard that, I was alerted and ran…” she shared.
From there she sprung into action, performing the Heimlich maneuver — for the very first time — until the woman was able to breathe freely once more.
“When I went back to the check the footage, I was overwhelmed with emotion when I saw that something like that happened in my restaurant,” Cunningham explained.
According to HealthResearchFunding.org, the Heimlich maneuver — invented by Dr. Henry Heimlich in 1974 — has saved 100,000 lives threatened by choking.
Montgomery certainly saved a life with her quick thinking and Heimlich know-how. Looks like she’s off to a great start considering she recently received a national Chick-Fil-A scholarship, which will go toward nursing school.
“I’m just so thankful that Shelby was at the right place at the right time to help that lady,” Cunningham added. “To save a life.”
We’re glad too. If ever we were in a situation such as this one, we’d certainly want future Nurse Montgomery around to save the day.
