Two-Time Cancer Survivor Experiences Color for First Time at Bellagio Gardens in Vegas

Those of us who have the amazing ability to see color may take for granted just how great a gift we’ve been given.

For the colorblind, the inability to see certain or even all colors can make life challenging. Color brings life to everything, after all.

Two-time cancer survivor and recording artist Aria discovered what it was like to see color for the first time in 2017.

The singer, who grew up in Santa Fe, shared a vulnerable post from 2013 on Instagram. As of August 2016, it had been three years since Aria shaved her head during her battle with the disease.

“Cancer may have taken my hair,” she wrote in the photo’s caption. “But I didn’t let it take my heart. I am so blessed…”

When 2014 rolled around, the survivor and singer was in remission. A side-by-side photo from 2017 showed a change in her hair, but her bright smile was ever the same.

“We must live for ourselves,” she wrote. “For the second chances we’ve been given and for those who cannot.”

It was that same year, in 2017, when Aria was given another gift. One that only served to alter her perspective on life even further.

A video of the artist captured the moment she put on a pair of EnChroma glasses for the first time.

Aria is colorblind and there was no better place to try the glasses than at the Bellagio’s flower gardens in Las Vegas.

Wow! The best part is when she keeps saying “that’s fake.” The color must be so stunning, the singer can’t believe what she’s seeing is real.

It’s moments like this one that melt our hearts and remind us of the simplicity of creation’s beauty. We hope Aria will have the chance to see colors for many cancer-free years to come.
