Video Footage Shows Moment Fearless Mom Rips Carjacker from SUV and Pins Him to Ground
As a single mother, Tihisha Jones, 49, had worked long and hard to save for the SUV she drove, and no one was going to take that away from her, according to WABC.
Her 2005 Honda Pilot was a prized possession that she used to drive her son to school in as well as to get around town.
Jones auto-started the car from her Bronx apartment one chilly Tuesday morning before taking her son to school. However, when they walked downstairs to leave, she found a man sitting in the front seat trying to get the car to move.
Because Jones auto-started the car and still had her key on her, the man wasn’t going to get away.
The man, Bernado Santiago, 19, probably thought he would make a clean getaway with the vehicle — but Jones had another idea in mind.
As Santiago tried to put the SUV into drive, Jones made her way to the vehicle with her son in tow. She opened the passenger door ready to confront him.
Santiago closed the door on her, and Jones quickly ran to the driver’s side. From there, she dragged him out of the car and pinned him to the ground.
Jones continued to hold him down, waiting for police to arrive. He tried to wiggle out of his shirt, but Jones was having none of that.
NYPD officers arrived shortly after the capture of Santiago by Jones.
A neighbor saw the entire incident and filmed it on her cell phone after hearing the commotion.
“I had to take matters into my own hands because I work, I saved to get that car myself,” Jones told WABC.
Santiago, on the other hand, told police he had gotten into the SUV because he thought it was his Uber.
He was later charged with attempted grand larceny, petit larceny and criminal stolen possession of stolen property, according to WABC.
This mom is one tough cookie. Thankfully, Jones made it out of the incident unharmed and with her vehicle still in her possession.
