You'll Love Watching These 14 Pets React to Their Owners' Military Homecoming

Military homecomings — we can’t get enough of them, right? Don’t deny it. You’ve clicked on more than a few posts with words such as “military reunion” or “soldier surprises son” in the title.

I have a soft spot for these sweet moments, too, so no judgement here. Watching families reunite after months or even years apart does some good for the soul.

Pet lovers know that humans aren’t the only ones who need some love after a long period of separation. Our animals need the connection just as much as we do.

It can be hard for the deployed men and women who serve our country to be away from their pets. They may wonder if their faithful furry friends will even recognize them after so much time has passed.

The Huffington Post published an article in 2015 that explored pets and their feelings.

“Dogs are so good at reading (human) emotions,” Nestlé Purina senior behavior scientist Ragen T.S. McGowan, Ph.D., told Huffington Post.

“They will often pick up on subtle changes in voice intonation associated with affective state and respond accordingly.”

If it’s a question of bonding, Rover noted seven signs you can look for to know whether or not your best friend has truly attached.

Signs include eye contact and seeking out affection. If this is the sure-fire way to know if your pet really loves and knows you, I’d say there’s no doubt these military pets remember their owners.

Watch as these 14 pets (13 dogs and 1 cat) react to seeing their soldier masters again for the first time.

Prepare to have your heart melted.

I’m not much of a cat person, but even Buddy the cat’s leap into his owner’s arms is adorable. Watching this may have even warmed me up to pets of the feline persuasion.

Which clip was your favorite? My vote is with the Golden Retriever who had to search out his owner beneath the blankets on the couch. If a wagging tail means “I love you,” these pets have said it a hundred times over.
