Little Girl Grabs Mic, Belts Out National Anthem Before 'Shop with a Cop' Event at Walmart
Kids and adults at an Arkansas Walmart were buzzing with excitement before the highly anticipated “Shop with a Cop” event on Dec. 9.
The police officers of North Little Rock want the kids in their community to have positive interactions with law enforcement. One of the ways they accomplish this is through a fun community event where cops shop alongside kids in need, helping them pick out Christmas presents for family members.
“This is all about the kids,” police officer Matthew Peach told KTHV. “It’s really great to see a smile on these kids faces.”
Each child participant receives a $200 dollar Walmart gift card to spend on themselves and someone in their family.
The officers look forward to the event, agreeing that they have just as much fun — if not more — as the kids.
“Just walking around and seeing the interaction, it means so much to them to actually get involved with the youngest in our community, our youngest citizens,” Sgt. Amy Cooper said of her officers.
“To take them around to see that joy on those children’s faces, I know warms the hearts of our volunteers and officers.”
Before this year’s event, guests were treated to the musical stylings of Annie Zimmerman, who sang the national anthem.
Officer Tommy Norman shared a video of 10-year-old Annie, saying her performance gave everyone “absolute chills.”
Annie’s video has been viewed over three million times, with many viewers amazed that such a young voice could have that much power and confidence.
This isn’t the first time Annie’s singing has sparked America’s interest. In 2017, Annie was interviewed on national television after a talent show audition video went viral.
Annie said her favorite singer is Bob Dylan and she was first inspired to sing after watching a talent show when she was in pre-kindergarten.
“She’s always sang, from the earliest time we could remember,” Annie’s dad, Mike Zimmerman told “Good Morning America.”
The natural performer has always gravitated to crowds and also loves acting, playing the piano and songwriting.
The crowd was delighted to have Annie’s presence at the “Shop with a Cop” event, as her performance really gave the day an extra special amount of pizzazz.
