Mother Desperately Seeks Transplant as Her Infant Daughter Lies Slowly Dying
Christmas is a time for miracles. It’s the time of year when even the most skeptical of skeptics believe in the impossible.
One mom has shared her story on social media in hopes of finding a miracle for her baby girl. Aurora “Rori” Shane has spent most of her time in a hospital bed since the day she was born on July 8, 2017.
Born with a congenital heart defect, this sweet baby girl’s only hope lies with a heart transplant. Unfortunately, finding a donor with a heart small enough for Rori presents a major obstacle.
“Because of her size she has not received many offers,” a post on the Hope for Rori Facebook page explains. “Blood type and weight are a key factor, a donor who weighs 20-50 pounds is needed and her blood type is A+.”
The page began as one mother’s desperate cry for help. “Sharing this on social media is a long shot but it has worked and after living in the hospital for almost two years with Rori, I’ve heard firsthand of these stories,” her mom, Jennifer Shane, wrote.
Rori’s mom hopes others will share her daughter’s story so it might have a chance of going viral and maybe, just maybe, be seen by the right person at the right time.
The family is in Louisville, Kentucky, and little Rori is patiently waiting for her heart at Norton Children’s Hospital.
But time is running out. According to her Facebook page, as of Dec. 1, 2018, Rori has been on the transplant waiting list for 200 days.
“Rori has won the heart of so many, now it’s time to find a heart for her,” the page pleads. “We love you Rori, fight on! Please share and have a heart for Rori.”
Her family and friends are doing everything they possibly can to make Rori’s story known. From a GoFundMe campaign to sharing the baby’s story and photos on social media, her parents are hoping for a miracle.
Anything you can do to share Rori’s story and help her find a heart makes a difference.
“Rori is in decline,” a Dec. 9 update on her page reads. “She needs a heart NOW, but could there be another specialized procedure like the one she received at Stanford that could give her more time until a match is available?”
