Rescue Footage Released: Bird’s Beak Freed from Deadly Tangled Twine
When Maria Metheny saw a bird in trouble, she knew the animal wouldn’t survive without her help.
She got her whole family involved in the rescue and made sure this little bird could continue to eat and drink.
When Metheny saw the Anhinga bird, it was in a poor state. At first, she thought it had food in its beak.
But when her family got a little closer to the bird, they were able to see that it was a wad of cotton wrapped tightly around its beak.
Metheny and her family realized the bird could not open its beak and would eventually starve if they didn’t step in.
After cornering the bird, the family was able to begin the daring rescue.
Holding the bird in place, the family worked as a team to get the tightly wound cotton off of its mouth.
There was no way to pull the cotton free by hand, so they began to use a pair of scissors.
The scissors were dull, but the family persisted to help the bird and save its life.
Cutting a little piece here and there, they were able to remove the cotton one piece at a time.
The Anhinga bird was obviously stressed, but let the family continue to help.
With a final few snips and pulls, the family was able to free the bird from the snarly cotton mess.
Standing back for safety, the family let the bird gather itself and walk away to freedom with nothing impairing its ability to eat or drink.
