Waitress Receives $10,000 Tip from Customer Who Ordered 2 Waters at Hot Dog Restaurant

Share

Sup Dogs was started by a 23-year-old named Derek Oliverio who’d had a vision for 5 years. College town, greasy food, a bar, lots of energy and music? Perfect.

It became a cool local hangout for students, and Oliverio’s personality kept the place lively. He had no experience in running a restaurant, but he learned.

A few years after opening up the restaurant, he got home to see his duplex on fire, his brother Bret Oliverio said in an interview. Knowing his two dogs were still inside, Derek rushed in to save them.

He never made it out alive. His family was left to pick up the pieces and decide what to do with his restaurant.

Bret and his wife decided to take on the task, keeping Derek’s dream alive as they, too, learned from the ground up how to manage and operate a restaurant. The restaurant is still wildly popular, and its live music draws large crowds.

It has also attracted a man looking to give away a large sum of money, according to WNCT.

One Sup Dogs waitress was recently the recipient of this rather generous tip. You might think that someone who came in and got great service or bought a lot of food might leave a hefty tip, but this goes beyond that.

You hear about crazy tips in the neighborhood of $500 fairly often, and there are even those who go above and beyond handing out $1,000 tips — but this one has all of those beat.

A man walked into Sup Dogs and asked for two glasses of water. No food, no other drinks, just two waters, which are generally free.

He left a $10,000 tip.

“Good people are still doing good things these days so I thought it was pretty cool,” Bret Oliverio said. “I’ve seen some really big tips but not $10,000 this was (out) of the blue, once in a lifetime, it’ll never happen again in my lifetime.”

People have identified the generous donor as a man who goes by the name “MrBeast” on YouTube. He has posted an array of videos featuring various stunts and challenges, some show him awarding the winner with $10,000, and others show him sitting in a vat of slime for a day and does irreparable damage to himself.

He lists his accomplishments on his “About” page, saying that some of his proudest moments included “Ubering Across America,” “Watching Paint Dry,” and “Counting to 200k.”

“Making the Staff at Sup Dogs Very Happy” is another one he can add to that list. The waitress ended up keeping a good portion of the tip, and the remaining money was doled out to other staff members.
