Roofing Company Pays Off School Lunch Debt at 3 Schools, Now They're Looking To Do More

Share

The CEO of a roofing company in Gwinnett County, Georgia, is making it his mission to pay off student lunch debt in every single elementary school in the state of Georgia.

“It is frustrating to some kids who come through and they know that they don’t have any money,” Brookwood Elementary School Cafeteria Manager Polly Macon told CBS 46.

When Todd Price, President and CEO of Perimeter Roofing, heard this heartbreaking truth, he knew that he wanted to make a difference.

He said, “Me and my partners, we all have kids and I couldn’t imagine if my daughter came to school and couldn’t get lunch or was embarrassed by the other kids so it was something we had to do.”

If the family doesn’t pay the remaining balance at the end of the year, the amount rolls over to the next year and the burden is still placed on the parents to pay, something they may not have the money for.

Perimeter Roofing’s donations, however, will help lift the financial burden off of both the parents and the school, ensuring that students can come to school to focus on learning and not worrying about whether or not they will be able to eat a hot meal for lunch.

Pharr Elementary School Principal, Lisa Rhodes, told Fox 5, “This is a great opportunity for our students and our parents so that they can begin with a clean slate without being worried or embarrassed that don’t have the money to pay for their lunches.”

The company has been visiting various elementary schools for the past four weeks.

Do you know families in your neighborhood who could use this kind of help?

So far they have written checks to Harmony Elementary, Dacula Elementary, Meadowcreek Elementary, Pharr Elementary and Brookwood Elementary.

Price said that the company’s goal is to cover the outstanding balance for every elementary school in the state, a goal he is now hoping the local community will be willing to help with.

The company has started a fundraising page on Facebook, ensuring that 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to the schools.

The company wrote, “We heard about children who were denied lunches, or were accumulating debt, because they cannot afford it! We thought this was outrageous so we jumped into action and are trying to pay off the debt.”
