WWII Hero Dies 2 Days After Walking Granddaughter Down Aisle at Wedding
If you’ve had history class, odds are that you know a good amount about World War II.
And odds are even greater that you either have a WWII veteran in your own family or know of someone in a different family.
There’s no doubt that these veterans have intense stories to tell, ones full of passion and detail.
But their passion inevitably transfers to their personalities as well — these men are so full of passion and dedication, especially when it comes to their country.
For instance, this zeal for our country was perfectly displayed when one 99-year-old WWII veteran sang the National Anthem during the 7th inning stretch of an IronPigs minor league baseball game.
Their valor and passion are also displayed in their relationships, just as one 94-year-old WWII veteran displayed as he walked his granddaughter down the aisle at her wedding in Poland.
During the war, Bronislaw ‘Grom’ Karwowski was captured as a POW by the Nazis but escaped from the Gestapo’s headquarters in Poland, according to Unilad.
After his escape, he was arrested again in 1948 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
He was later deservedly awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland, as well as other awards.
At the end of August, Karwowski braved his ailments, put on his WWII gear and walked his granddaughter Joanna down the aisle at her wedding.
The bride walked slowly down the aisle, arm-in-arm with her grandfather as other members of the armed forces respectfully walked behind them.
As they reached the end of the aisle, Karwowski let go of his cane to shake hands with the groom.
The groom gave him two kisses on the cheek as a symbol of saying “thank you” for his bride.
Their family and friends surrounding them wiped tears from their eyes as they witnessed such a beautiful moment, all the while stringed instruments played in the background.
Two days later, Karwowski passed away due to his ailments.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn this brave soldier. We are so grateful that he was able to walk his granddaughter down the aisle as one of his final moments.
