Stormtroopers and Superheroes Stand Guard at Funeral of Age 6 Boy Killed by Pellet Gun

Share

On July 26, 2018, a 6-year-old boy from the U.K. was shot with a pellet gun at his grandparents’ home in East Yorks.

The Telegraph reported that the little boy was being tended by his grandparents Albert and Jennifer Grannon, both in their 70s.

Reports say Stanley Metcalf was shot in the abdomen and then taken to Hull Royal Infirmary. Sadly, he did not survive and died in the hospital the same day.

The incident has been dubbed an accident thus far, but investigators are still looking into the details behind what happened.

“Initial indications are that this was a tragic accident involving a pellet air gun,” Humberside Police DCI, Mark Goulding, told The Telegraph.

While the tragedy of losing a child is something no parent should have to endure, there was beauty found in the darkness during Stanley’s funeral on August 22.

“He was so vibrant and full of energy,” a statement given by the family said. “A typical six-year-old boy who just wanted to have fun and enjoy life, and he adored playing football.”

That vibrance was mirrored in the atmosphere of the boy’s funeral. Daily Star reported that his twin sister, Elsie May, was seen sitting on a horse-drawn carriage and wearing the city’s colors while she waved to onlookers.

A hearse, also drawn by horses, carried Stanley’s coffin to Chanterlands Avenue Crematorium. The coffin was topped with a soccer ball fashioned from flowers.

Perhaps the most eye-catching part of the processional was who accompanied the boy on his way to the crematorium.

Stormtroopers and superheroes joined in the tribute and led his carriage through the grounds, according to Daily Star. Captain America and Iron Man were there to give him a proper send off.

“Stanley’s funeral will be a day dedicated to him and for him, he is all that matters…” the family’s statement said. “Stanley was a loving, caring and beautiful boy, and there is a huge gap in all our lives now that will just never be filled.”

This story is truly heartbreaking. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this time. While they undoubtedly miss him, I am sure they’re grateful for the love and support that was shown to honor Stanley’s memory and all that he was and loved.
