Zoo Confirms April the Giraffe Is Pregnant with Baby Number 5

Share

Brace yourselves: April the Giraffe is pregnant again!

Spring of 2017 was filled with many important events, but one of the most memorable was the long-awaited birth of little Tajiri, April’s fourth baby.

Park officials incorrectly predicted April’s due date, but millions of April fans avidly watched a live stream that was broadcast for 65 days until the baby’s birth. People tuned in to watch a very pregnant April walk around the barn, eat hay, and sleep.

But the internet is a beautiful place where even the most boring live stream can be turned into an affair.

Memes were made. Merchandise was sold. Those two months became one, long, April the Giraffe-themed party even though some became frustrated by the wait.

A singer-songwriter from New Hampshire, named Rick Riley, even wrote a hilarious song about the wait. He called the song, “I’m Going Crazy Waiting (For a Giraffe).”

When he posted the song to YouTube, he wrote underneath, “This is a song about waiting for April the giraffe to have her baby and the frustration.”

Another video went viral during the 65 days of live streaming. Erin Dietrich, a South Carolina mother, recorded a video of herself wearing a giraffe mask and obviously pregnant, walking around her room much like April was shown doing on the live stream.

She was eventually named “the giraffe mom.” Her video has received over 32 million views since!

Once Tajiri was born, those who fervently followed the story have failed to find a live stream to fill that void in their life. Until now.

Jordon Patch, the owner of Animal Adventure Park, announced that April the Giraffe is expecting her fifth calf!

Patch shared the happy news on NBC’s “Today” show on July 25, 2018. He said that she will be due in Spring of 2019.

Oliver the Giraffe is the proud father, the same giraffe who fathered Tajiri.

The park posted a video where Patch explained how they know that she’s pregnant and how they predicted her due date.

He also promised that at the beginning of the year, they will begin posting regular updates of April and Baby #5’s health.
