Cat Believed To Be Oldest in World Celebrates 137th Birthday in Cat Years

Share

There seems to be a world record for everything. From a 99-year-old swimmer to the fastest birth in history, there’s no shortage of the truly amazing and incredible.

When it comes to pets, their lifespan is usually anything but ancient. We sadly say goodbye to our beloved fur-balls before we’re ever ready to let them go.

But one feline has remained by his owner’s side since her 20th birthday. A birthday that was celebrated in 1988.

Meet Rubble. This orange and white kitty brings a whole new meaning to the idea of “9 lives.”

With 30 human years to his name (that’s 137 cat years, in case you didn’t want to do the math), Rubble is well on his way to being eligible for a Guinness World Record. But his companion, Michele Foster, has other plans for her friend.

“I don’t think we will go down the Guinness World Record route,” she shared. “I am not sure he would like lots of people coming to see him or a fuss being made out of him.”

Just like us humans, Rubble’s age has worn on him a tad, and he can be a bit on the grumpy side, according to Foster. Still, “He has plenty of life left in him yet,” she said.

And Foster isn’t the only one who wants to see Rubble continue his already-long life. City Vets gifted the old kitty with a complimentary check-up in celebration of his big milestone.

Rubble deals with high blood pressure, but other than that he’s very healthy for his age. If he keeps it up for at least another year, he’ll surpass the last known oldest living cat, Scooter.

Scooter was from Mansfield, Texas, and sadly passed away following his 30th birthday.

However, if Rubble wants to be a true record-breaker, he’ll have to outlive Creme Puff, a cat from Austin, Texas who lived to be a whopping 38 years old.

Still, Rubble and Foster seem to be less concerned with world records and more focused on peace and quiet. “We would prefer if he was just left to live out his old age in peace,” Foster added.

I hope Rubble gets his birthday wish. Even if he doesn’t earn an official award or his name in the books, this feline is still a wonder to behold.
