Toddler's Eyes Blister Shut, Rushed to Hospital. Mother Warns About Product That Caused It

A purchase of a toy makeup kit turned into a nightmare situation for one Illinois family.

Tony and Kylie Cravens bought a kids makeup set from their local Family Dollar for their daughter, Lydia. The parents had purchased a different brand before and assumed this one was harmless as well.

“We never imagined after spending the day applying to her eyes and lips that our worst nightmare would come true,” they wrote in a Facebook post.

What the parents did not know was that there were six different chemicals in the makeup set that were known to cause allergic reactions, and sadly their daughter had a severe allergic reaction to it.

“In 24 hours our little girl went from 100% healthy to her eyes swollen and blistered shut.. with a rash all over her body that we would have to apply cold packs to every 30 minutes or so because her skin was burning.”

“She was unable to eat much for days because of the blistering and cracking of her lips.. Lydia has been through so much these past few days.”

Tony told People magazine that the doctors who took care of his daughter said that the reaction was caused by the makeup.

Lydia has been recovering at home since her release from a Champaign hospital on March 17, though her dad admitted that he was having trouble watching his daughter in pain.

“As I sit here and watch my baby girl sleep I can’t do anything but weep uncontrollably. All the tears that I have watched my baby girl cry, all the screams in pain and all the times she would say ‘I hate being sick daddy’ I’m not man enough for this,” he wrote on the joint Facebook page he shares with his wife.

“I wanna see her smile again…”

Lydia has since improved even more and her parents wrote that their daughter is smiling again. They’re warning to other parents?

“PLEASE be aware of what you are letting your babies have… ESPECIALLY kids cosmetics…. so this doesn’t happen to your child…
