Mom Gives Birth to Hairy Newborn That Looks Like an 80-Year-Old Man
Do any of you remember the 1996 film “Jack” starring Robin Williams? The storyline was about a young kid who aged four times faster than the average child.
For most of the movie, the main character, Jack Powell, enjoyed his life as a 10-year-old boy stuck in a 40-year-old body. He overcame a lot of adversity and bullying from kids who didn’t understand his condition.
At the end, Jack graduated from high school, though he was much more elderly-looking than before.
His inspirational valedictorian speech was a tear-jerker but also a reminder that life is too short.
Surprisingly, the movie was based on a rare genetic disorder called Werner syndrome, which is also a form of progeria or Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS). This happens when a gene develops an abnormal protein known as progerin.
This causes the cells to break down faster, which then leads to premature aging.
One in four million babies are usually born with this disorder and don’t live to see past age 13, but just recently, doctors in Magura, Bangladesh, have confirmed yet another case.
A mom gave birth to a hairy newborn that looks like an 80-year-old man. The unnamed baby boy was born with a wrinkled face and sunken eyes.
Astonished doctors say certain physical traits, including his rough skin, were clear signs of progeria. “The baby does not look like a [newborn] at all,” they said.
Though his condition was very visible, his parents, Biswajit and Parul Patro, were still happy with his birth. “We will accept him the way he is,” the father stated.
The couple was already parents to a daughter, so they were thrilled to welcome their son into the family. To Biswajit, it was a blessing to now be a family of four.
“We can only thank God,” he said. “There is no need to be unhappy about the appearance of my son.”
At this point, doctors aren’t sure about the medical approach they will take to treat the infant. For now, he is healthy, but that may change in the future.
The Patros are keeping the faith that their baby boy will grow up to live a long and normal life, though not too many medical experts believe so.
And, with a loving, supportive family by his side, this little one may just prove everyone wrong.
