Teacher Caught on Video Chasing Student & Hitting Him with Belt

Share

Anyone who has graced the inside of a classroom knows that kids and teens can be infuriating. Something about school seems to bring out the desire to test boundaries and see just how hard you can push an instructor before he breaks.

In the case of one teacher in Cypress, Texas, though, it seems that a student miscalculated the man’s tolerance for tomfoolery.

A video posted to Facebook — and since removed — shows the teacher at Cypress Woods High School sitting calmly at his desk as an older male teenager approaches him.

The boy waves his left hand in front of the teacher’s face before swiping his right across the back of his head. According to his classmates, the student had also spat on the teacher.

As the teenager walks away, his instructor heaves himself to his feet. The boy starts to run as he sees the man taking off his belt.

What follows after that is a pursuit that could’ve been funny if the circumstances weren’t so serious. The teacher methodically pursues the young man here and there as the youngster desperately tries to avoid him.

Finally, the man corners him and begins striking him on the torso and legs with the belt. Then the two begin to grapple, the man eventually forcing the student to the ground.

Local families certainly didn’t find anything humorous about the confrontation. Alexis Woods, whose younger sisters attend Cypress Woods, was shocked by the incident.

“That’s crazy,” she told KTRK. “If that happened to one of them, it would be a problem.”

“It would definitely be a problem,” her mother, Sherry Lopez, seconded. “He could have called his parents. There were other measures he could have took.”

There are plenty of other ways the teacher could have dealt with the situation, but unfortunately he was triggered enough by the boy’s insolence that he took matters into his own hands, making poor decisions.

The school seemed to have agreed with that sentiment, because the teacher was promptly fired.

“The staff member involved was immediately removed from campus and CFISD police are conducting a thorough investigation,” the school said in a statement.

“These actions are certainly not representative of Cypress Woods or CFISD employee standards of conduct.”

Interestingly enough, though, the teacher’s name hasn’t been released since he hasn’t been charged with a crime.

Still, no matter how flagrant a student’s transgressions, it’s never good to have an adult lose control, and the man’s subsequent sacking will hopefully serve as a warning to everyone involved.
