Woman Says 'I Do' from Hospital Bed. 18 Hours Later, Passes Away
David Mosher, 35, and Heather Lindsay, 31, met one another at a swing dancing class in 2015. The two hit it off a few months later and started dating.
After just a year together, David knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Heather. He planned a proposal for Dec. 23, 2016.
And when the day arrived, his proposal plans were all in place. But just hours before he was to pop the question, the couple was given the devastating news that Heather had breast cancer.
Heather had no idea David was planning to ask her to marry him that night. And David wanted to let her know she wouldn’t be going through anything alone.
So that night, with the help of a horse drawn carriage, David proposed to Heather underneath a streetlamp.
Five days later, the couple learned that the cancer was in one of its most aggressive forms — triple negative.
The next year of their lives was “consumed with cancer.” The pair sought out natural doctors and were in the hospital almost weekly.
Sept. 2017 only brought more heartbreak, as Heather learned that the cancer had spread to her brain.
At one point, Heather was put on life support with a breathing tube. Heather was not expected to live beyond October.
But David knew how resilient his wife-to-be was. “She was tough,” he said. “Anyone else would have given up a long time ago. The doctors even said we don’t know how she’s still here.”
As their Dec. 30 wedding approached, Heather had been worried she wouldn’t live to see it. And after even more bad news, doctors told David if they wanted to get married, they would need to do it sooner.
So on Dec. 22, 2017, David and Heather were married in the hospital’s St. Francis chapel surrounded by family and friends.
Christina Karas, a close friend of Heather’s, took breathtaking photos of the ceremony. Each of the images express nothing but joy from Heather as she finally married the man of her dreams.
“It reminds me of someone who is crossing the finish line of a marathon or something,” David said.
“That moment right there was like, ‘Death, I’m not afraid of you! I am so in love and I am going to celebrate that love right now,’” Karas said.
On Dec. 23, only 18 hours after the wedding, Heather sadly passed away. It was also the anniversary of their engagement just one year before.
But David knows that giving up is not what his late wife would have wanted for him. “Heather said, ‘I want to keep fighting,’ so that’s the mantra I’m picking up,” David said, “She was able to fight til the end, I’m going to fight until my end.”
“She’s my great love, and I’m going to lose her, but I’m not losing her forever,” David said. On Dec. 30, Heather Mosher’s funeral was held at the same church she was set to be married in on that day.
